It's just fascinating to see ProgFascists call Bill Kristol one of their own now.

A fascist finds his true home every time, I suppose.

You can start with the consistently self contradictory infectious disease doctor running the show for our government.

JAMA asks: "What to do with doctors [eg Scott Atlas] who pose a threat to the lives of Americans through lying and toady-ism?

However, a less flattering story emerged about the inadequate US response to COVID-19. A number of leaders in federal, state, and local government, guided by political exigency and recommendations from a small number of physicians and scientists who ignored or dismissed science, refused to promote sensible, effective policies such as mask wearing and social distancing. This contributed to the US having more infections and deaths than other developed nations in proportion to population size, with disproportionate effects of COVID-19 on already disadvantaged racial and socioeconomic groups.3 In contrast, countries like Taiwan, South Korea, and New Zealand, where respect for science and truth and a collaborative relationship between public health and government leaders prevailed, were far more successful at controlling the pandemic.1

As Fauci said correctly.  The US is not a small island nation.  No one is going to miss the economy of Taiwan or New Zealand in the global market.

Sandstone, you are either not very smart or willfully ignorant if you think the US govt is primarily to blame for what has happened with the virus is this country.  You can’t stop an infectious virus from spreading when a large portion of your citizens refuse to socially distance.

The two are linked. People refused to socially distance because they were told not to trust/respect science and received very mixed messages from the government about both the threat they faced as well as the benefits of distancing.

I couldn't even pretend to touch the rage of the resident ProgFascists when someone says mean things about their own.

iPOTUS Joe and his people have already been hard at work dampening expectations, and Fauci still contradicts himself repeatedly.   Sometimes within the span of hours.

They had an impact, but as I said they are not primarily to blame.  Go ahead and think that people would have changed their behavior if you want.

it's kinda amazing we had less than a year in the "nothing we can do, just stay away from people" stage.  we're a very successful species.

really good article, especially the bit about the stupid and counterproductive underselling of vaccines.

It really cannot be understated how important messaging is. And no one is better suited for that than top elected officials, who have overwhelmingly failed when it comes to COVID.

He already did.  Remember how it's a Biden/trump faceoff in the oval office?

Speaking of (a little over) 1 year ago:

Catching Covid-19 'minuscule',  skip wearing masks, wash your hands (our nations leading infectious disease expert).   The flu is what you need to worry about according to Dr. Tony Fauci.  Go about your business, nothing to see here.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2020/02/17/nih-disease-official-anthony-fauci-risk-of-coronavirus-in-u-s-is-minuscule-skip-mask-and-wash-hands/4787209002/

During this time it was the same drumbeat over and over.   Repeatedly Fauci told all the media outlets that the average American simply had nothing to worry about.

If that testing shows the virus has slipped into the country in places federal officials don't know about, "we've got a problem," Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told USA TODAY's Editorial Board Monday.
