Mich has been right about this stuff from day 1 before doomsday hit (big 12 tourney (Thursday)) and I’m just going to keep listening to what he has to say right now. He’s been pretty exact on all accounts so far, before we hear numbers here in the Midwest. He made me want to roast Becky about mask usage for citizens from the Waldo page after I saw this, don’t be confused by the state line. Becky went across the street to update us all!: (

“SUPER disappointed in Hy-Vee in Prairie Village. Their store shoppers (the people they pay to do shopping for pickup and delivery) aren’t wearing masks, and continuously cut you off/come right next to you to get their own items. Spoke to a manager on my way out and could tell he couldn’t really care about my concerns. I’m not living in fear, but I do think if the CDC sets out guidelines, all essential businesses should be mandated to follow them. Just a heads up in case anyone is already uncomfortable going into stores - probably find a different one than this one to do your shopping!)” 😍

Being 100% honest btw. You guys should listen to Mich. He and his wife have been ahead of this for at least 2/3 weeks from the rest of us and it definitely helped me prepare for the upcoming events I’ve been holding down for my family. Extended mainly! Ty!

I agree seriousCat, he is on the front lines. I have also been there too, tho. I may not have the medical advice but I’ve been talking about this since January.

The timing of this Pandemic documentary on Netflix is crazy. I’m a couple episodes in and it’s rough ridin' nuts how quickly stuff could get bad. There’s quarantines starting to happen in China, Hong Kong is canceling school, and this is getting close to the busiest time of year because of the Chinese New Year.

I also saw something on reddit that they are exploring a possible case now in Denver. We seem to be getting really close to a tipping point where some drastic things might start happening.

Man, some of these early takes are so bad.

I think the regular flu that we have here every year is probably worse.

Yikes.

https://bnonews.com/index.php/2020/01/the-latest-coronavirus-cases/ the timeline is interesting, new cases are added every few minutes.

agree with spracs that it isn't very lethal, probably won't amount to more than SARS.

No surprise that Spracs understood early.

Certainly on a gross basis. This one seems to spread a bit more aggressively, but yeah. I could kick its ass. The troubling part is that you can communicate it for like 2 weeks while being asymptomatic.

Also, reports are circulating of a case in Lawrence. Xpost Lawrence Is Hurting thread.

 @LN You think I’m worried about me? People who live pay check to pay check, like waiters, bartenders, etc. are going through this right now. I tried to share my experience during this time and you decided to use it as a crutch to shame people who don’t vote your way. They haven’t updated their system in 40 years! What are they doing with their funds? Clown!

not trying to be a dick (have filled my quota for the time being)

But I am curious as to what parts of the "system" haven't been updated in 40 years.

I can't tell if this is a kudos or a slam. Only thing I'd change about this statement is the "Certainly" to a "potentially".

You’re good, bud and I don’t believe you’re a wannabe dick to Most moderates about first time users (the system), but @TBT can you describe IT platforms for us, like the state of Kansas that maybe hasn’t updated theirs in 40 years and why it might be news worthy in IT during this time?

Well, I haven’t worked for the state of KS for over a year. That being said I can state some vague stuff about how we changed. From experience I supported some pretty old crap, I’m talking in the ~15 year old stuff tho.

I did migrate our stuff to new hardware. I singlehandly migrated, converted, wrote scripts, and oversaw the deployment. It was all successful, and a year removed no issues.

We were lucky we had a team lead that understood tech,  was a previous programmer, and saw the benefit to upgrade crap, tho. Other departments have had to deal with other issues.

Genuinely relieved to see Cuomo's "best case" was off by almost 8x.   Anecdotally, I know KC hospitals expected things to be far worse over the last few weeks than they have been.  This is all happening much slower (or is less severe, depending on the actual number of cases) than the experts anticipated three weeks ago.

America has not turned into Lombardy, Italy.  That was a genuinely terrifying (and realistic) prospect, and we should all be very relieved and proud that those projections did not come to fruition.

The question the experts need to be focusing on is, given this new encouraging data, what do we do after the curve flattens?  Is the strategy really going to be shelter in place, and send ~a trillion in relief every two or three weeks until we institute the policies like those set forth by Newsom country-wide?  If so, can we (as a society) actually afford that?

DBT: "Best Case Scenario."  That 40k number wasn't "business as usual."  That was his projection 4 days after shelter in place was ordered in NYC on March 20.

The projections were off.  Cuomo didn't actually "need" 40000 ICU beds by April 14.  It's understandable why he and experts thought they would at the time, but they were wrong.  Either (1) the peak wasn't "14-21 days" after March 24, or (2) the peak was only an eighth as bad as he anticipated.  One of those things must be true.

To be clear, this isn't an effort to "dunk on Cuomo/experts."  But I do think it's critical that we step back and appreciate that the projections were off because that's important.  For one thing, it's a huge relief.  But as time goes on, we get more data and should act accordingly.  At least in the NYC case study, today isn't as bad as we thought it would be -- which is great.  Conversely, the data also implies that this situation is going to last a lot longer than Cuomo/experts expected it to. I suppose that's inherent in any successful curve-flattening.

So I guess my question is, what happens after the curve flattens?  If the country is still losing 500+ people a day in the Summer, are we still receiving trumpbux checks every few weeks?

Dude, I love ya but you’re a case study in media manipulation and a near perfect example of everything that is wrong with our country. I realize that some will wake up slower than others and it’s a tough pill to swallow that news and entertainment are intertwined in order to control the narrative for those unable or unwilling to apply a bit of common sense or critical thinking.

Think about WHY this site was created in the first place...  Insiders or as we called them “people ITK” were able to get inside info about K-State football that the “real reporters” couldn’t get because the entire narrative was controlled within Vanier Sports Complex.

While we all enjoyed knowing facts about our favorite team, those that enjoyed the public narrative hung out at GPC and called us all sorts of names because we didn’t toe the line.  Remember?   Well, guess what? The EXACT SAME THING is happening  now, only on a much larger scale.

Is it a real and dangerous virus? Yes. Do we need to take appropriate precautions, especially around the most vulnerable? Yes.  However, we aren’t all gonna die and day by day more facts will come out about “the truth” of it all and how we can both protect ourselves and treat the sick.

Generally speaking, the MSM is LYING TO YOU to control the narrative. They want you to believe that everything that goes against what major news outlets report is “conspiracy theory” and everyone who doesn’t believe the company line is wacko.

Well, guess what? There’s some highly intelligent MF’ers out there that are ITK who are willing to either do the real reporting &/or insiders that are sticking their necks out to expose the truth.  It’s up to us to examine information from both side and question it as to it’s validity. The big media companies do not have your best interests at heart.

You’re far too intelligent to be this dumb.

I agree we’re back to the point where very clear messaging is important. Assuming of course that hospital and ICU admissions have remained low, I think some places are still waiting to lift restrictions until PPE supplies are replenished. After that, it’s absolutely time to either explain the plan to reopen things or to clearly explain why restrictions should remain. So far Ive only seen a lot of “it’s working but we can’t let up now” which is not helpful for anyone.

Unfortunately this has to be done almost entirely at the local level because of the lack of leadership and trust in the WH.

Haven’t heard anyone of any import say that.

I do see people talking about herd immunity (Mayor of LA), welp, you can’t achieve herd immunity if everyone is locked down.

the disconnect of the Trumpers that are irate about lockdowns and their lack of realization the lockdown extensions have everything to do with this country's fumbling of getting mass testing going so we start to control this thing is pretty mesmerizing.  Not at all surprising though as the lack of self-awareness has been evident the entire time.

Even his return the economy committee of dimwits told him we can't open up until we get more testing.  SAYING we have more testing every night at a press conference doesn't count.  Frustrating.
