Up to 14 days is the incubation period, that’s not how long you are contagious. You have staggering cases(not everyone gets it at once) so new outbreaks happening all the time. This is what I had wrong, 3-6 weeks to get over it for severe (hospital) cases according to the WHO and like you said that could be after 14 days of incubation (although 5 days is the median). I get the staggering of communication of the virus.

Good article on testing fuckups that I also think does a good job highlighting on how more federal oversight and cooperation among states is needed. (Also my wife's hospital was using Quest and I'm pretty sure still is)

i've been looking for that data point. it's hard to find. i interact with a person on twitter who is convinced that all the emphasis on ventilators is misplaced because those people are all gonna die anyways, they just die slower with a ventilator.

20% is a little lower than i'd guess for the global recovery rate for intubated patients, but it does seem like if they put you on a ventilator, that's really bad news.
