We had somebody who lived through the Polio epidemic (which was devastating and is less contagious than COVID-19) so we are going to ignore suggested CDC measures! If only this thing specifically affected stupid people.

Pretty much all the people in this article are MAGAs and very, very dumb, right?
Honestly I didn’t see a single criticism in that article lodged against social distancing other than one prof. arguing his university should have stayed open cause his class couldn’t be taught online.

To be fair, the Nashville Mayor's request was pretty dumb.  He asked that bars on "Broadway and throughout Davidson County" close their business until further notice.  "Restaurants" (defined as "public facilities where the sale of food comprises more than 50% of revenue) can stay open with limited capacity.

The 50% revenue cutoff seems like an arbitrary cutoff line that will have some pretty big financial impacts for these businesses.  Why not just close it all down or limit capacity for all bars/restaurants?

Honestly I didn’t see a single criticism in that article lodged against social distancing other than one prof. arguing his university should have stated open cause his class couldn’t be taught online.

there were some good questions asked, but there was no evidence presented that show doing nothing was better economically than what's happening now. (but it did say the value of a death prevented was as high as $9 million). also no mention of ICU capacity which I think is the scariest part of this.

I also think this was a key quote that makes a blind economic model pretty useless:

Quote
It was hard to escape the conclusion that Davidson, like others, was influenced by social pressure, he said: “It’s like, if you don’t close, then you’re a heartless, cruel organization.”

and in all seriousness I'm guessing an insurance agent from Redwood City and an economist from Wyoming and a VC who's insisting on holding a conference this week are MAGAs, even if there were a few good points raised.

One of the economists is from Sweden and the other worked with the IPCC.

My understanding is that this has always been the scariest part and is the prime reason for the social distancing. I mean, the ICU beds are needed for people that aren't sick with COVID-19 too...

Does anyone think now is the right time for the government to make decisions about things like whether going to dinner and a movie has more value for America than letting some old, sick people live a little longer?

to be fair, the maga position is now no discretionary travel, no gatherings of 10 or more etc.

the "we will hold meetings and conf no mater what" position is now a major idiot statement.
