Japan still baffles me w/ vaccination rollout
it really does. isn't their whole thing about putting the collective before the individual?
It must be a supply issue. In any event, it really sucks for the rest of the world who wanted to attend the Olympic games. Due to their own dilatoriness, they closed the Olympics to foreign visitors. Will be strange to see only Japanese spectators at the games. (I have a small amount of insider-y knowledge about this.)
They do have somewhat of a supply issue in which they have to import all of their vaccine. However, the bigger issue is that in Japan only doctors or nurses under the direction of a doctor can give the vaccine. They had a shortage of doctors before the pandemic, obviously it's worse now.
I do think that even if they had a high vaccination rate they would still ban visitors. They still have a small transmission rate despite the small vaccination rate because of how stringent their mitigation has been from the very start.
