Low shooting percentages...are they bad?
« on: November 14, 2019, 07:18:20 AM »
So the basket cats are 1/32 from behind the arc in the first half of our games so far this year. Is that bad? I mean, we keep winning, but it seems bad. Should our freshmen bigs be shooting it more? They seem to have nice touch from the outside, and our guards aren't shooting worth a crap. What's the answer, dudes?

Small sample sizes, regression to the mean, etc.

Regression to the mean implies that the 'Cats are going to shoot lights-out at some point to offset this crappy 1 for 32 start.

Not really. It means that the 1-32 is an outlier, and in future samples of 32 attempts, we can expect them to shoot closer to the percentage that reflects their true talent. It is not implicit that a positive outlier to offset the negative outlier will happen over the course of a relatively small set of samples.

These dudes can't shoot. Luckily the extended three point lines opens up driving lanes and they're still figuring this out. It's why they have looked differently each half, they get the halftime adjustment to attack those lanes off of the dribble.

oscar “the adjuster” weber has long been feared by rival coaches for his mastery of adjustments
these stats just prove how deadly the adjuster can be

Need some "The Adjuster" memes. "Just when you thought he couldn't adjust any further...he did." *deal with it shades*

Part of me is hoping that Sean Williams is able to come back and help with our lack of shooting, but I think all of me knows that he wouldn't actually help. He may actually be the lead Clankmigo.

I tried to make a bunch of the adjuster memes but the adjuster broke through the computer and adjusted all of them

Why do we always seem to suck at shooting? Is that the trade off for guys who can play defense?

Kinda a trade off for playing the pace that we do, it emphasizes running really good offensive sets and we don't do that. There was a really good article in the athletic that had video of our pathetic offense in the first half, a lot of guard to guard passing with no effort made on away from the ball movement.

We start slow and play down to our competition. The UNLV and North Dakota State games are good wins, but watching us play isn't pretty, that's probably why, bud.

I haven't really watched much but it seems like we should consider running offense at a different pace.
