As long as you are checked in and no checked bag, 30min will be plenty.

In January I had an early morning flight.   There were 2 flights leaving within 45 minutes of each other, and it actually took about 15-20 minutes for me to get through the line, even with my pre-check to skip the whole shoe thing.     It's a bit of a bottleneck at that point, as at least that day they had a single TSA agent manning both lines.   He'd process a dozen from the line for the early flight, then let a couple of us go, rinse and repeat.

Delayed, missed my connection.  Thanks American Air.

Not because of weather, or mechanical.  Cancelled the late night flight coming in, so no plane this morning . . .

Oh, man. When you walk away from your bag and no longer have to deal with dragging around your crap, you feel light as a feather and free as a bird.

Waiting for baggage is balls. Sitting at the gate with a suitcase in front of me doesn't feel very restrictive.

Here's another consideration. You can have 3-4 suitcases, a bunch of carry-on bags, a stroller, only two people with the physical ability to carry much of anything, and other, smaller people who need to be constantly monitored so that they don't go off and do stupid crap.

I don't like a large carryon when I have to go to the bathroom while waiting for a flight.

Anything longer than a weekend trip, I'm probably checking a bag.  On weekends I can pack light enough and the shorter trip means my time is too valuable to wait for baggage.  If I'm traveling with my wife, we're probably checking a bag regardless because she has makeup and crap that can't do a carryon.

I can't imagine traveling with kids.  Sounds terrible.

my kids are absolute pros. they have their own backpacks and know the security routine and all that. they toss their crap on the conveyer, wait for their turn through the metal detector, all that. TSA pre is a must have with young kids.

Did you know the Topeka airport doesnt have their own TSA? The TSA from MHK have to drive to topeka when needed.

My parents get these free charter flights to small casino areas in Nevada (Elko/Laughlin) that fly out of topeka and make stops at other random small airports on the way.

They were supposed to leave at 730, plane is there and everyone is ready but they are waiting for the TSA workers to arrive from MHK.
