They've also decided not to associate with WaPo, the Intercept and many others at the behest of many governments. They're also censoring people discussing things like Holocaust deniers.

You're slow, but I didn't think you were THAT slow.

I don’t have any really developed thesis behind this or anything. I think these companies are well within their rights to promote/ limit speech as they see fit. I find it problematic that they have such wide control over our lives in every way. These companies all have the ability to socially engineer society on an unprecedented scale, which is harmful even if you believe in their benevolence. It would be better if they were broken back up into their component parts: Facebook/WhatsApp/Instagram, etc.

Google has a near monopolistic stranglehold on the access point into the Internet utility. If it didn't, then countries wouldn't be specifically seeking out Google to develop that countries censored search engine.
