Remember That Certain Thing?
« on: April 15, 2019, 11:07:43 AM »
Remember busy signals?  It's like, well I know they are home because the line is busy but I'm just waiting for them to get off the phone.  Or, omg it's been busy for like an hour, get off the phone people!

Feel free to discuss busy signals and your memories of them and also new certain things that you remember.

Yeah, dial tone, wow.  On a number of occasions when their were people around I would say "I've got tone!" and then as I was dialing the last number I would say "firing!"

Remember: Time & Temp?  You would call and a robot would tell you the time and temperature.  I called it all the time because the only other way to figure out the temp was to wait for the Local on the 8's on the Weather Channel.  The Topeka # was 271-7575.  I remembered it just now off the top of my head because that's how often I called Time & Temp.  Wow, it still works!  You have to listen to a 30 second diabetes product commercial but then you get the time and temp.

I used to call time and temp all the time in grade school. Needed the temp because my mom wouldn't let me wear shorts to school if it was below like 40 or something (don't remember the threshold)

In college we would call the time and temp # in the middle of summer and make bets on when it would hit 100 degrees.

Everything to do with figuring out movie times.  Calling into the theater and searching the paper for the ad.

Same for the TV guide in the Sunday paper to figure out whether, and where and when, your sports team was playing on TV.
