I went to see Gladiator II last weekend. Since I wasn’t anticipating an Oscar-winning film, I appreciated it for what it was—a violent, fictionalized account of ancient Rome. The gladiator riding a rhino as if it were a horse and the sharks in the colosseum were fantastic fantasies that I thoroughly enjoyed. The CGI was great, the acting was fine.

I kept asking myself why Denzel was in this.

Why Denzel was in it or the necessity of his character in the film?

I was trying to figure out the Macrinus is Trump connection that the boys on TexAgs were complaining about.

Why Denzel would choose to be in it. Just figured he wasn't choosing roles based on $$ on this point, but maybe not. I too was trying to figure out the Trump connection but gave up.

I went to the Stray Cat Theater in KC and saw the 1978 Czech comedy Adela Has Not Had Supper Yet.  Neat theater and the movie was absolutely wild, funny and beautifully done.

In a way that ChiComCat especially appreciates, or in more of a "appeals to the general public" way?

I recommend PEDs but I think it appeals to the general public. There's great slapstick comedy and some wild animation.

Watched Rebecca (1941) tonight. Been on a Hitchcock kick lately. It was his only Best Picture winner. Was surprised I liked it as much as I did considering it is rarely mentioned up there with his more famous works. 6.5/7

The 1984 made for tv adaptation of A Christmas Carol starring George C. Scott as Scrooge and David Warner as Bob Cratchit is an enjoyable adaptation. The sets and costumes are great and I always like the slower pace of movies from this era. The cgi while slightly outdated is understated and not off-putting.

Some very very excellent voice acting (if they gave Oscars for that Lupita would be a shoo-in IMO), and some ok voice acting.  Great visuals, music wasn't my cup of tea.
