Da 5 Bloods - 5/7
Baby Driver - 5/7 (was pretty pak'd for the second half of it so maybe better than that?)

The opening scene for Baby Driver is like, one of the best opening scenes of all time. The rest of the moment doesn't stay close to that quality, so I was pretty disappointed in it. And how the hell do they not have another get away/race scene at the end?

woman of the hour on netflix is a good thriller.  it stars and is directed by anna kendrick, no relation to bob.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

The Gutter is the best comedy I've seen this year

Can't believe it took me all these years to watch Jackie Brown. 6.5/7. Would be 7/7 but Samuel L Jackson's facial hair grossed me out the entire time.

humanist vampire seeking consenting suicidal person was pretty charming.  music/score was pretty great.  if “movies dlew would probably hate” is a genre you enjoy you may like it!

i HATE arthouse trash.  except terrence malick cc @PoetWarrior

I've been watching old movies Mrs. DQ wouldn't care about in half hour installments while she puts the older one to bed:

2001: A Space Odyssey -- Really enjoyed parts.  The psychedelic interlude in the final act is absurdly long.  You could've cut at least 15 minutes out of that and not missed anything.  Maybe the effects were way more of a fun novelty back then, but hoo boy.  I'd had enough after 30 seconds.  I decided to fast forward after 2 minutes.  And was shocked to learn I wasn't even 20% done with that part.  But overall a cool story.  Completely understandable why it's deemed a classic and was so influential.

A Man for All Seasons -- My my.  Very good.

Casablanca -- Rewatched it recently.  Still slaps.  Bogey is so cool.

Watching The French Connection lately.  Kind of startling seeing Gene Hackman (the good cop?) roughing up so many people in bars looking for drugs and stuff.

I love the French connection and also how disgusting/miserable NYC must have been in the 60's/70's

I watched what seemed to be a pretty low budget movie with Steve Harrington from Stranger Things by the name of Marmalade. It was actually pretty good. It had a couple other people I recognized in it. Some twists and turns and I know the guy that played a small bit part. Check it out for a fun flick.

Apparently that whole psychedelic scene was supposed to have narration over it the whole time and at the last second Kubrick scrapped it.

Watched The Whale last night. Very Aronofsky. Would love to have seen how they do the costume and make up during a production of the play and if it looked realistic at all.

6/7 mostly due to Brendan Fraser's acting skills.

Gladiator II was good. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Mrs. IPA was not impressed but she dislikes Denzel. So, you can ignore her shitty opinion.

I liked Smile 2 better than the original. That being said, I went to bed with 5 minutes left because I was dragging.

I did the popular double feature of hit movies over the holiday, following Wicked with Chopping Mall.  Although Wicked was good, Chopping Mall was the real star of the Whopping Mall duo.

Just went through Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien: Ressurection. Alien was the only one I had seen before.

Alien: 5.5/7
Aliens: 5.5/7 (don't make the mistake of watching the extended version)
Alien 3: 5/7
Alien: Ressurection: This one I have a hard time rating because the first 3/4 are some of the most fun. It's exactly what you'd want from a horror/sci-fi collab. But good rough ridin' grief the last quarter of it sucks ball(s) and taints. It's the epitome of why everyone should follow the rule of not showing the monster too much. 2.5/7

Alien: Romulus: Similar to Resurrection. Why do we need to show the weird looking monster so much? It was very good up until that point. Went from a 5/7 to a 3.5/7 with that reveal.

Nightbitch is an interesting tail on motherhood.  It was funny and a good time.  I would not watch with your baby mama if she's mad at you.

Lawrence of Arabia - Wow.  What a film.  It's so long.  I bet it cost 1 trillion dollars to make.  It's a more interesting story than I would have guessed going into it.  The ambiguous nature of the title character was interesting for a move that's that old.
Raging Bull - Very good.  Deniro, Pesci, and Marty.  How could it not be?  I really liked old version of Lamotta.  What a mensch!

Currently watching The Maltese Falcon.  Hard for me to get into!  Seems very corny!  But probably because it was very iconic and kind of a trendsetter for those noir movies.  Bogey still rules.  Love when someone's pointing a gun at him and he just punches them in the face and takes the gun.  Hiiiiyah!

I know about that!  My family goes down to Ft. Lauderdale fairly frequently, and I think they have the boat from that movie as a big tourist attraction where you can ride in it out in the ocean or on the intercostal.  My dad’s made a big deal of it before.

I’ll check it out if it’s in MAX.
