I just finished all 4 John Wicks (spoiler alert) I’m glad they killed him off in the last one.

I couldn't make it through the second one, I don't get the hype.

Watched the newest Mission Impossible (fantastic) before Christmas with the boys.  Then we decided to watch them all over the break.  Yikes that second movie was nearly unwatchable.

During Covid I set out to watch every Academy Award Best Picture winner. Haven't completed the list but have seen just about everything all the way back to the fifties. Just watched Bridge On The River Kwai (1957). Fantastic flick.

had recently listened to a multipart podcast on flight 571 (uruguayan rugby team that went down in the andes in 1972), watched Alive (1993 movie with f'n ethan hawke, sigh) and was happy to see a very recent spanish film (la sociedad de la nieve, on netflix) take it up.  spanish movie ruled, 6.5 :raccoon:

I watched Swingers for the first time ever. Felt like a 90's movie spinoff of Seinfeld for the west coast early 20 year old in the bar scene.

i finally watched Barbie and it was very good. i think it would have been even funnier if i knew like, anything about barbie and all the versions that came out. felt like a lot of references i was missing (unless they specifically called it out).

I watched it the weekend before last and enjoyed it. I think the campfire scene where the Ken's sing Matchbox 20 was my favorite. I was disappointed the scene with Pete Davidson singing, "I'm mentally ill and I'm on drugs" that I've seen in IG reels wasn't in the movie. Just realized that was an SNL parody.

May December with our guy Charles Melton .... good! the score created a weird creepy vibe. Charles was great in a low key "do less" kind of way, which he has spoken about in interviews.

I watched a couple of "oldies" over the weekend for the first time in like 20 years and....SPOILER ALERT....they're both still awesome.  Give these a watch if you haven't already.

Chinatown
The Conversation - IMO a very underrated movie

i didn't enjoy May December, but I also think some of that arthouse crap isn't for me anymore.  the acting in it was good.

Barbie was entertaining. Not a movie I’d probably ever watch again, but I’m glad I saw it.

Made me want to watch Oppenheimer though.

So I should say I probably had already seen half of the 60-70 I've now seen. Some that stand out that I hadn't seen before:

- It Happened One Night
- Best Years Of Our Lives
- The Apartment
- In The Heat Of The Night
- The Sting
- The Hurt Locker

good times

lol

the lifeless, dull mediocrity that is EM and Arrival, but you've got the same basic "dumb people think this movie is really profound when it really isn't" vibe to them.

Critics raved over this movie. It wasn't insightful, thoughtful, profound, or any of the other glowing adjectives affixed to it. SPOILER ALERT!! Tony Stark make an AI robot that's super hawt. Dweeb wants to have sex with super hawt AI robot. Turns out (gasp), super hawt AI robot doesn't really care about having sex, but figures out it can use Dweeb's horniness to escape, because of its AI made by Tony Stark. That's the entire plot of Ex Machina. The dialogue wasn't memorable. The acting wasn't memorable (except the dance scene). /Spoilers.

Granted, part of the problem was my expectations going in. If I had gone in cold I expect I would have concluded "eh, that was ok." But based on the glowing reviews I left the movie thinking "WTF is wrong with all these clowns?"

if you're a dumbass who enjoys movies like Ex Machina that make you feel smart by pretending to be way more profound than they actually are, you'll like Arrival.

To me, this is kinda like what happened with other movies (Ex Machina comes to mind), where there seem to be a lot of people who want Parasite to be a lot more profound than it actually is.

Was pretty underwhelmed by it. Was really hoping I'd like it given the cast and the subject matter.
