The twitter bot hysteria about Cuties led me to watch it tonight. Of course the yelling about over sexualation of the actors in the movie, was absolutely ridiculous and I have very serious questions for anyone who actually watched this movie and that's what they came away with. Anyway, I talk more about that stuff in the pit.
The movie is about an 11 year old Senegalese girl from a conservative Islamic family, living in Paris, dealing with her adolescence, full stop. There are times when the filmmaker exaggerates what's happening in the kids lives, but that has happened in every movie with or about kids ever made. This movie is reminds me of Good Boys and Mean Girls without the funny and Moonlight. It was okay, the cinematography is good, despite the bad dubbing, it's a French film. I'll recommend my wife and daughter watch it together, but I won't watch it again. It's heavy at times and not at all entertaining. I had to watch an episode of Cobra Kai before I went to sleep because Cuties put me in kind of a dark place.
