It was about an hour too long and oh God the dancing was cringey. Second act much better than the first. Daveed Diggs was the star.

He has a movie called Blindspotting out that's supposed to be pretty good (and set in Oakland :gocho:). I was gonna watch it but it was only on HBO on my fire TV for some reason.

Thumbs up for Palm Springs.  I'm a sucker for that concept every time.

SAME!  I could watch hours of programming just about the shenanigans of a time loop.  I've always thought to myself, "you should just write a sitcom about the mumped up crap you'd do if you were in a time loop."  No point to it. Just endless fuckery.

I watched a movie called waiting for the barbarians and it was super weird/creepy

It has Johnny dell, Robert Pattinson, and the old man from Dunkirk .  I really liked it. Based on a novel but played like a short story of that makes sense.

Amaze is a stretch but it's good. The makeup person should have won an Oscar because they made Jessica Chastain look just like Molly Bloom and they don't look alike at all. Also that ice skating scene was cheesy a.f. but it was relatively accurate.

I have never considered a producer/director/writer when deciding to or not to watch a movie.

yeah I can't argue with that. Diggs took some cringey scenes (rap battles) and made them palatable while the king stuff was pretty much great all around

The potential cringy rap is why I was not going to go out of my way to see Hamilton, but when it was included in my season tickets, it was inevitable. It was cringe in some places, but not as pervasive as I thought it would be. You're 100% right about the second act being much better than the first.

IPA GF picked the movie last night. I'm two years late to the Academy Awards party but I thoroughly enjoyed Three Billboards. Never would've picked it on my own. Laughed my ass off, cringed a few times, and I cried once. What a rollercoaster.

aaron sorkin writes a very distinct style of dialogue that turns a lot of people off

It reminded me how much I liked Looper, which is less "fun mumped up crap" related, but a film I really, really like nonetheless.

I found a nice hack on YouTube on how to get HBO Max on Firestick.

^^I just wanted to rent it, looks like I can on my phone but couldn't on the fire for whatever reason. I realized I watched HBO rarely enough that I'd be better off renting a couple movies a month and maybe sign up for the occasional binge series.
