Joker was some seriously depressing crap.

Watched this last night and can confirm.  It was damn near too dark, gritty and depressing to enjoy.  Like, the movie ended and I just sat on my couch and sulked for about 5 minutes. Joaquin Phoenix absolutely nailed his performance.

4.5/7

Oscar worthy.  Looks to have starved himself for the role.

Irishman should've been 90 min., so-so movie
Jo Jo Rabbit was really good and Scarlett Johansson merits best actress Oscar.  One has to put themselves  in the shoes of Jo Jo.

Well done, Clint Eastwood. You got two tears from me in the last 30 minutes of this film.

Parents babysat the lil one tonight and left the TV on 6 Underground tonight (they don’t have Netflix anymore). So I’m rewatching it again and I get why this movie struck a nerve with our man, Chodecat. They’re killing fake dictatorship ppl on film. 😞

Wasn’t there something controversial about that RJ movie?

I can’t imagine one, but since Clint made it, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Ya, but did it happen in this case? It would hurt the reputation of that reporter, and she's now deceased.

Interesting. Now I wanna look into it. Seems like a weird storyline to make up, so now I guess I get it if she didn’t have that reputation.

I’ve heard it’s a really good movie but yeah there’s controversy because she can’t defend herself.

Golden Globes:
Joaquin Phoenix won best actor in a movie drama for his performance in the controversial supervillain origin story “Joker,” the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever made. Mr. Phoenix, who lost 50 pounds for a movie that divided audiences over its violence and portrayal of mental illness,

Watched a lot of movies this weekend:

1. Downfall - Portrays the last days of Hitler (mostly) through the perspective of his young female secretary.  This is the movie that shows hitler freaking out in the bunker that was popular in memes like 10 years ago.  It's long but pretty interesting.  Was a little surprised at how prevalent suicide is throughout the movie, but in hindsight, I was probably dumb to be surprised by that.  Critically, it was criticized for showing the humanity of the Nazis, but it sure wasn't sympathetic at all.  I enjoyed it.

2.  Kill Bill vols. 1 and 2 - Fun stuff.  I liked how when a limb or head was chopped off blood sprayed out like it was coming out of a shower faucet.  The very old master guy (pai mei?) was great.

3.  The Rainmaker.  I don't really like lawyer movies.  Young Matt Damon did a pretty good job though.  I would have been fine not watching this.
