Million dollar baby - 5/7, good story and acting and Hillary swank rules. I really dislike Eastwood as a director though. He usually picks great stories but his style is just so boring. Give this to a talented director and I bet it shoots to 6-7/7 territory.

At the Heart of Gold (about Larry Nasser) on HBO is pretty crazy. Kind of like Abducted in Plain Sight but replace the idiot Mormon parents with Michigan State University and US Olympics.

Black Panther 6/10  Sure wish I understood the plot:
1.  Is it about the guy that's Black Panther
2.  Is it about the elevation of individuals within the tribe to become king/ Black Panther?
3.  Is it a showcase to show African-centric sci-fi (which was extremely cool, BTW).

Hey so highwaymen was good and historically accurate. 6/7

I thought for sure woody would steal the show but Costner was very good.

Yes. Very well done. Costner and Harrelson were great. Simply a beautifully set, shot and directed historical period piece. Always cool to see movies that take place at least in part in Kansas and bordering areas.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Ok, went to Austin last month, and got invited to a screening put on by the Austin Film Society.  They showed a 1930's film, like maybe Alfred Hitchcock's first movie he directed.  39 Steps.  Thought it would suck, but instead it reminded me of what a great director Hitchcock was.  See it if you ever get a chance, it's a good thriller.

One of my wife's coworkers was in a production of this at the Manhattan Art Center.  They did a good job making jokes out of the small production.  Haven't seen the original but the play was interesting although I'm sure it was slimmed down a lot.

Very tense. Little dialogue

Captivating

Watched a little-known Rock Hudson movie from 1966 called Seconds.  A fat old banker has surgery and ID change to start a new life as an artist in Malibu (beach house, no less).  His new identity is played by Rock Hudson.  Fair amount of frontal nudity, very rare for a movie from that time.  If you like Rod Serling's Twilight Zone, this movie is like a 90 minute episode.  Actually pretty good, not the kind of acting gig Rock Hudson was known for.

Bad times at the El Royale - pretty decent. Felt like it was made in 1994. Very Tarantinoish but not as good. 5.5/7

As much as I like Jeff Bridges, that movie tried a little too hard to be like a Tarantino movie.

lil sd and I watched Thor Ragnarok this weekend. It is our first super hero movie we've watched. Apparently a lot of stuff has happened before between these characters and I know a little bit about what happens later because I watched one of the Avenger movies on an airplane but I don't think it altered the experience. Very fun movie, humor was accessible for a 6 year old. 7/7 for a dad and 6 year old to watch together (no cursing or sex and violence was over the top enough to not be real and scary).

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) - 4/7. it is incredibly hard to get used to how terrible movies used to be. like this whole thing was shot indoors with glaringly bright studio lights everywhere, and everyone talks weird, etc. but liz taylor is electric enough to carry the movie until paul newman actually starts talking, and there are some good scenes/lines in the final act with the narrator from rudolph the red nosed reindeer.

Three Days of the Condor (1975) - 5.5/7. obvious similarities with all the president's men, without the inherent advantages of being a true story and having dustin hoffman. but still pretty good. robert redford is a gem. would absolutely drive faye dunaway's ford bronco.

The 12th Man (2017) - 5/7. it's super low budget and pretty long, but the story is so incred and the details are well thought out that it's still pretty good. apparently jonathan rhys meyers does not speak german but learned all his lines anyway. i enjoy listening to norwegian
