I do appreciate the movie bringing awareness of the real green book to modern society. I had never heard of it. Someone on the kc reddit posted pictures of the Kansas and Missouri pages from the '49 edition, pretty interesting.

Most of black Twitter hated it. FWIW

I guess I need to just completely retire from acknowledging anything involving race. Maybe it's for the best.

you could also listen to what blacks are saying and try to understand why they are critical? :dunno:

Here's a couple more serious and balanced critiques:

Green Book was good, but not great.

Bo Rhap should have won over Green Book.

Black Panther GTFOMF with that.   That movie sucked.

Quote
he film’s approach to racism, common to Hollywood films, which is to suggest that relationships between individuals will heal centuries of racism. And indeed, Green Book’s treatment of racism is uneven at best. In an early scene, for instance, Tony throws away two drinking glasses that black construction workers used in his kitchen, suggesting he draws a hard line about even coming into contact with black people. But a movie like this needs a “likable” hero, and after that moment, he doesn’t engage in such blatantly offensive behavior for the rest of the film. As an Italian American, Tony would have experienced plenty of discrimination himself, but the film only hints at it.

good summation of what people didn't like about it.

I really enjoyed Green Book last night. Held back some tears at the end. I don't think it deser3ed best picture after seeing it, but it was definitely in my top 5 for the year.

10 hours of flights yesterday, here's what i got in:

Lone Survivor ... pretty great, pretty awkward to get misty eyed at the end surrounded by people on a plane
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit ... meh
Enemy ... whoa. didn't see this one coming. total mind eff, what is going on? hauntingly suspenseful, really enjoyed this one, makes you think.

started Her... will report back once finished

Finally got around to watching Enemy a while back. Initial reaction was disappointment and annoyed with the ending. After some time thinking about it I've come to appreciate the story and thought put into it. I am a sucker for the dark, suspenseful stuff though.

Came across a movie on Prime. A Most Wanted Man.

Spy. Terrorism. Slow roll drama. I enjoyed it.

Yeah that was PSH's last movie I believe.

I watched Shot Caller on Prime the other night.  Has one of the guys from game of thrones in it.  Cliff's notes: Steve Dave goes to prison for a minor crime and becomes a gang boss.

This one left me thinking far more than Get Out, the meaning behind get out was very cut and dry. SO many hidden things in this movie that i still don't quite understand when I google and youtube-ed theorys and explanations.

Spiderverse was better than I expected and I don’t even like Spider-Man. Decent. Deserved the best animation Oscar for sure.

Bohemian Rapsody was excellent. My favorite of the BP nominees so far. Not sure if that guy won best actor but he should have.

Green Book was also terrific. Did Aragorn really get that fat, or was that part of the costume? Oh and all the whiny little snowflakes offenended by this movie can get bent. Apparently a lot of folks in Hollywood and whiny bloggers think only a black director like Spike Lee is allowed to make movies about racism.

As already reported, Black Panther was among the most mediocre installments to the MCU. Talk about racism in action - nominating this turd for BP was the most patronizing pat on the head imaginable.

Next up for me are Star is Born and BlackTrump’saRacist. I really don’t like the lady who stars opposite Rocket (I’m not even going to name her because I hate even her dumb name), but people keep telling me it’s good (not the same dumbasses who like Black Panther) so I’m giving it a shot.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.
