The Beach was on HBO last night. Young Leo totally slays in that movie.

It would appear that there's a new documentary on Netflix about flat earthers, Behind The Curve. I haven't watched it yet, and don't know that I will, but the preview was funny.

The best part of the flat earth doc is the end when they get their experiment results.

i'm going to see Green Book tonight, i think

increds

this movie is catching a lot of hell for winning best picture and admittedly it's catching me off guard. i'm interested to hear other people's thoughts. i came away from the movie thinking it was an awesome story and entertaining as hell. it never crossed my mind that it was trying to make white people feel good about themselves. is this my privilege getting in the way? serious question.

Yeah, I actually watched it immediately after the Oscars and had your same reaction. Guess we're just privilege bros.

Fwiw that's the exact vibe I got from the trailer and it turned me off. Oscar's love that stuff tho.

I mean, the white guy was the ignorant, bumbling, low-skilled simpleton, and the black guy was the erudite, talented, brave trailblazer. And the entire movie was about the struggles faced by black people in the wake of the civil rights era. At the end of the day, the white guy and the black guy both ended up learning unexpected lessons from one another. I get that that is classic oscar bait, but the "white savior" narrative I had seen hurled at the movie seems inapposite to me.

Saw Glass this weekend. Didn't hate it.

James McAvoy kills it again with all his DID personalities.

I guess I need to just completely retire from acknowledging anything involving race. Maybe it's for the best.

Have not seen the movie, but this description sounds like a movie about a white man overcoming stereotypes and bettering himself despite being challenged by the pressures of being a racist.

I just think I get the spirit of the criticisms. It’s like the movie equivalent of “I have black friends.”

i guess i don't see how it applies on a macro setting. when i watched the movie i very much only considered the two people in the story. in no way did i think this was a sign of curing racism, how could i? it's about one person who becomes less racist because of a relationship with another person. the movie very much shows that there were still pieces of crap all over the place.
