yep, really gets the imagination juices flowing.  It's like, why is is there a tower? And why is it so dark?

Apparently Matthew Mcconaughey turned down the villain role in the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 movie to play the man in black in the Dark Tower.

Jake has to be in the movie unless the departure is in a very major way.

Also, I could see the need to merge the first two books.  The second was slow AF and 80% was just into/backstory of characters.  That said, the first book was fantastic and I would be sad if they f'ed up the first movie by making too much of it about the second book.

Man, given what has happened in past king movies, I feel like I have high probability of being disappointed here.  Ron Howard better deliver!

Here's the way the movie is being described...

Quote
The Dark Tower film will not be primarily based on the 1982 novel The Gunslinger as initially expected. “[The movie] starts in media res, in the middle of the story instead of at the beginning, which may upset some of the fans a little bit, but they’ll get behind it, because it is the story,” King told Entertainment Weekly in March.

It remains unclear which books the movie will focus on, but director and co-writer Nikolaj Arcel did tell EW that “a lot of it takes place in our day, in the modern world.”

Though the film may not be an exact replica of the original series, King says that fans can expect Sony’s version of The Dark Tower to maintain the classic opening line: “The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed.”

“It should start that way,” the author, who tweeted the famous line back in March, told EW. “I’ve been pretty insistent about that.”

Update 7/15/16: Arcel has confirmed that the upcoming movie isn’t a straightforward adaptation, but actually a follow-up to the book. “The hardcore fans of The Dark Tower series will know that this is actually a sequel to the books in a way,” he said, per EW. “It has a lot of the same elements, a lot of the same characters, but it is a different journey.”

Could be good - could be a monorail wreck. I agree that most King adaptations without Frank Darabont involved have been garbage, but it seems like this one is too important to everyone involved to eff up.

Speaking of which, did you know that Gage is the name of the boy in Pet Cemetary? And there is an actual pet cemetery sign visible off I-70 near Lawrence? The same stretch of I-70 that Roland's crew is walking down in Book 4? And I-70 is most likely the highway King would have driven to the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO? Could just all be coincidence, but fun connections.

Supposedly King used to be very fond of riding his bike cross country on 70.

let's get this back on track with other stuff i have watched lately:

The Family Fang (2015) -  :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: and a half / 7; i'm not sure how to rate this one but i'm pretty sure it's 3.5 somethings out of 7

Repo Man (1984) - 0/7; what a horrible piece of garbage that i regret clicking on

Along Came a Spider (2001) -    / 7; pretty enjoyable WHAT'S GOING ON HERE type movie. i was going to give it 4 but then i spent about 1 minute thinking about the plot afterwards, and there are a lot (A LOT) of holes in it

Scent of a Woman (1992) -      / 7; it's really rough ridin' weird and stupid but also has some amazing lines and made me smile a bunch, and also it took me about 75% of the way before i was like WHOA THAT'S ROBIN!

doesn't seem like a movie that would hold up.

I did watch Die Hard and Die Hard 2 over the holidays.   Held up great!

The ending of Sully was totally wtf.  "Yeah I would have done it in July" followed by some hearty belly laughs and then the credits roll.      :dubious:
