Her was just spectacular. Highly recommend.

do they sufficiently address the fact that it's really weird to fall in love with a computer?
Actually they do less of this than you might expect, but they handle it pretty well.

Dallas Buyers Club - I personally think it is better than 12 Years a Slave, but doubt many will share that view. I have a special place it my heart for movies that have a tough 1-2 punch of Lead and Supporting Actors/Actresses. Great examples would be Fight Club, Rounders, There Will Be Blood and of course Breaking Bad. The only reason I watched it today was because McConaughey and Leto both (rightfully) won Golden Globes last night for their roles in it. There were some really heavy scenes that they both handled near perfectly, and they both had to have upbeat, lighthearted scenes as well.

The mid-80's Texas setting was done better than even the American Hustle setting, I thought. Way more low key and natural than AH was. And the way they director handled McConaughey spells of weakness was very well done. It sucks that this came out at the same time as so many other movies that were marketed better, but this may be the most underrated movie of the season.

For the Lone Survivor folks...

I started the book but haven't made it very far...am I doing myself a disservice to watch the movie first?
I've not read the book, but saw the movie.   At this point, unless I find out there is substantially more in the book worth reading, I probably won't bother.  I've heard mixed reviews on the book, a lot of it as being a bit overdramatized as the author was a fiction writer.
I really liked the book when I read it probably 5 years ago. Very entertaining. Dudes a badass.

Overdramatized? More like made even better

In a World...

It's a light comedy about voice-over people for movie trailers.  Not a complete waste of time, but not what I would call a must-see either. It's not that funny.

Bad Grandpa

Very funny!  It's basically Borat but with Johnny Knoxville playing a grandpa.  The grandpa sketches in the Jackass movies were never my favorite, but some of these were really good.  Some of the bits are funnier than others, but Knoxville's one liners are hilarious.  I would definitely watch this again.

yeah it was a lot funnier than i thought going into it.  plus i really enjoy young kids saying bad words in movies, it makes me laugh a lot.

Rush was one of the best sports movies I've ever seen.  Probably top 5

Watched the Butler last night. Stud cast, very entertaining, and tearful in some parts. Good movie.

In order:
1. Wolf of wall Street
2. American Hustle
3. ILA

I've seen them all, minus the last one.

That is a hilarious way to describe seeing two out of three movies.   Also, that is kind of the order I was thinking, but also thought Inside Llewyn Davis might be the one that loses the least when watched on a laptop instead of in theaters...

Unless things have changed in 4 days, the WoWS streams are all edited and cut out lots of the movie

Saw Lone Survivor last night.  My critiques:

I never really cared for any of the characters.  I surmise it's because they didn't do much character development.  But maybe it's tough to develop the character of real hard asses who internalize a lot of emotion?  Also, maybe they were trying to keep it as real to the actual story as possible.  But then there were some moments that seemed completely implausible.  I am, however, inspired to fishing reading the book.

I think they tried, with the wedding and family stuff. The character development was very Peter Berg.

The very end was the most moving part, IMO, when they showed the real people.

I love quoting Rounders while playing poker. Everyone just laughs and laughs.
