Last season was because of Dev and Doke, not the staff. There’s *zero* excuse for being *this* bad. The Nike Collegiate Athletic Mafia cancelled the tournament under the guise of “corona.” It was a safe cop out for them because they knew it’d be bad for business (Nike) if Kansas (Adidas) dominated in March and April. They didn’t want another Louisville in 2013 situation. Nike programs have a monopoly on the National Championship in both College Basketball and College Football, and it should come as a surprise to nobody.

The next 2-3 years will be our Bataan Death March. This year: MAYBE squeak into tourney. Next Year: probably marginally better on the court but off the court...whoa Nelly. MASSIVE sanctions....definitely no tourney. Self leaves “voluntarily” after next season. 3rd year: new coach and we hold our collective breath as to whether we turn into the next Indiana. Book it

Life long fan and somewhat sad my attitude is shifting towards getting entirely new staff , feels like self and staff have been running on fat and lazy for a couple years now . No excuse for the recruiting fails and this years team is miserable .

The writing is on the wall. The recruiting will not improve until the NCAA finally drops the sanctions. Time to cut ties, take our punishment and find a new coach imo. Time to Roy it up

I have no idea. I like Self and he’s been great, so it’s conflicting. But basketball is becoming more offensively oriented and aside from his inbounds plays, Self is not an offensively oriented coach...I feel like the game has evolved past him a bit in that respect. He’s been overcoming that issue in past years with superior talent but with the ncaa issue and struggling recruiting that comes with it, it feels like that’s not gonna get better soon. I just don’t see any player on the roster and think, that guy’s gonna be a stud next year...we don’t have that type of talent anymore. The other part of me recognizes that it’s stupid to part with such a coach when there aren’t that many hot commodities out there. I just don’t like where the program is going or what the future prospects look like. Again, it’s conflicting. I know I’m overreacting. But ku needs an offensive system that nba level kids wanna play in.
ETA: Self’s teams usually peak in January/February. This team seems to be getting worse. That’s really bad news. It’s late January, and this team still has zero identity

Absolute best case scenario is winning all the games we should and going 3-3 against Tennessee, Texas, Baylor, West Virginia, Tech, and Oklahoma State. That puts us at 18-8 going into the Big 12 tournament, which we very likely don’t win.
So best case scenario means 9 losses going into the NCAA tournament. That’s probably good for a 5 seed. There’s a good chance we end up as a 6+.
