They won't even compete for the B12.  The scandal is taking its toll on the program and their only option seems to be to dump Self

Guys, 16 years in a row either K-State or KU have won the B12... and it's looking like KU won't be able to hold up their end of it this year.

Another streak dead.

Have they had issues recruiting top tier talent?  Seems like Agbaji is their best player.

Also the other "blue blood" schools suck this year as well (Kentucky, Duke, and NC).

I think I saw a headline about some Addidas investigation with possible NCAA Tourney bans hanging over their head but its just basketball so I didn't bother to read the article.

I think Covid has made it tougher for teams that generally rely on young talent to get up to speed.

since they're complete trash this year, i'm assuming they'll put themselves on probation and not take part in the tournament but who knows, math is hard

doubtful they volunteer to give up the 30ish straight NCAA appearances as it is one of the few things they can lord over the blue bloods

That, and I haven't seen much evidence suggesting that self-imposed penalties result in greater leniency. Also, it's a tacit admission of (some) guilt. Thus far, KU is holding the line that they've done nothing wrong. A self-imposed punishment would be inconsistent with that position.

i bet that ku lobbies the powers that be to just cancel the tournament again this year (after having their students spread as much covid as possible to increase infection rates across the globe) so that they don't have to miss an appearance

Nothing says I love you like the smell of piss and the echo of JOCO Jones convo from the table over.
I once blew clove smoke in a guy's face that cut in front of me in the line to KJ's.

Did a little light reading of the phog today and oh my, they are turning on self?!? L O L

Yeah dude, everyone laughed at you when you signed with Adidas and now you are finding out why.

Quote
Last season was because of Dev and Doke, not the staff. There’s *zero* excuse for being *this* bad. The Nike Collegiate Athletic Mafia cancelled the tournament under the guise of “corona.” It was a safe cop out for them because they knew it’d be bad for business (Nike) if Kansas (Adidas) dominated in March and April. They didn’t want another Louisville in 2013 situation. Nike programs have a monopoly on the National Championship in both College Basketball and College Football, and it should come as a surprise to nobody.

Alexa, inject.

Quote
The next 2-3 years will be our Bataan Death March. This year: MAYBE squeak into tourney. Next Year: probably marginally better on the court but off the court...whoa Nelly. MASSIVE sanctions....definitely no tourney. Self leaves “voluntarily” after next season. 3rd year: new coach and we hold our collective breath as to whether we turn into the next Indiana. Book it

This "life long fan" deserves big12 titles and elite 8's every year!

Quote
Life long fan and somewhat sad my attitude is shifting towards getting entirely new staff , feels like self and staff have been running on fat and lazy for a couple years now . No excuse for the recruiting fails and this years team is miserable .

Delicious salty tears, mmmmmmm

Quote
The writing is on the wall. The recruiting will not improve until the NCAA finally drops the sanctions. Time to cut ties, take our punishment and find a new coach imo. Time to Roy it up

This was followed by suggestions like Brad Stevens and Chris Beard

Quote
If Self gets canned, or leaves, who does KU pick to replace him?

The game has passed ole billy self by

Quote
I have no idea. I like Self and he’s been great, so it’s conflicting. But basketball is becoming more offensively oriented and aside from his inbounds plays, Self is not an offensively oriented coach...I feel like the game has evolved past him a bit in that respect. He’s been overcoming that issue in past years with superior talent but with the ncaa issue and struggling recruiting that comes with it, it feels like that’s not gonna get better soon. I just don’t see any player on the roster and think, that guy’s gonna be a stud next year...we don’t have that type of talent anymore. The other part of me recognizes that it’s stupid to part with such a coach when there aren’t that many hot commodities out there. I just don’t like where the program is going or what the future prospects look like. Again, it’s conflicting. I know I’m overreacting. But ku needs an offensive system that nba level kids wanna play in.

ETA: Self’s teams usually peak in January/February. This team seems to be getting worse. That’s really bad news. It’s late January, and this team still has zero identity

A SIX SEED?!? BUT WE ARE KU!!!

Quote
Absolute best case scenario is winning all the games we should and going 3-3 against Tennessee, Texas, Baylor, West Virginia, Tech, and Oklahoma State. That puts us at 18-8 going into the Big 12 tournament, which we very likely don’t win.

So best case scenario means 9 losses going into the NCAA tournament. That’s probably good for a 5 seed. There’s a good chance we end up as a 6+.

Cancelling the NCAA tournament to get at KU and Adidas is pretty great
