We don't talk politics at the house and for the most part keep the general gossip down in front of the kids.

8yo asks this morning why the president is mean. 2nd grader. I asked what he meant and he tells me the president cheated on his wife while she was pregnant.

My wife and I explained that we should judge the president on their policies and that what he did doesn't make him mean. I spent a while defending Trump and explaining the good, but I felt like I was talking in circles.

I am not even sure what answer I am looking for. Everything is black and white at 8 years old.

Personally, I'd have asked him more about what he understands about "cheating on your wife." Does your son have a good understanding of what marriage is?

Take the opportunity to teach him about what commitment, marriage, and cheating means. Then re-inforce YOUR commitment to your wife and about morality.

The only kids that would talk about cheating at 8, are likely those that have divorced parents... or those with exposure to adults looking to sway a young person's view on someone.

Imagine your son hearing from a friend that their father was whoring around on their mother. Probably not likely.

I hired a painter to paint the inside of my house before we moved in. He did excellent work and was much less expensive than a couple of the bigger painting companies I got bids from. He was recommended by neighbors. He was supposed to come today to do a couple other things. He just texted me that he's not going to be able to make it because a friend told him that "La Migra" is going to be in his area so he's staying home.

DOH! Maybe his pricing should have been a tip off? He speaks passable English. I never ask vendors their immigration status. Especially if the come highly recommended. Should I? Do you?

I'd hate to be trying to build houses right now .

I found the twitter of a guy I do business with who I could tell was a little off politically and he tweeted stuff related to a branch of evangelicalism that didn't think women should vote. I was pretty shocked that existed because I'd just never heard of it but these guys remind me of him
