Also I do not understand how that was not a safety
Tuck rule situation, his arm was going forward and by rule, if his arm is going forward, in a passing motion, with the ball in it, it's a forward pass. The referees don't have the latitude to interpret intent to pass, which there was clearly none in that play, but they called it correctly.
The problem I have with it is it never left his hand moving forward
Yeah, a truly bizarre play. The ball was completely in his hand and got punched out. Seems like a textbook fumble. Why does it matter if his arm was going up, down, sideways or in rough ridin' circles?
Even though it’s kinda dumb, I at least understand the “tuck” rule because 99.9% of the time it comes into play when only the QB’s arm is hit, which makes it almost impossible to determine whether the QB was trying to release the ball for a pass or not. I’m this case, he clearly was not releasing it.
