Tuck take:
Snyder built a program at K-State that has difficulty in attracting national talent.  His system is based upon recruiting overlooked players that fit well in his offensive and defensive schemes, but are good athletes.  Fitting coaching to players skills, who work with dedication, overcome talent deficits--putting the most players in a position with a chance to succeed and contribute to team success is the core of the philosophy put in place by LHCBS.

What it means:
I believe it.  If we bring in another Ron Prince, that theory will once again be validated.  If we bring in a member of Snyder's coaching tree, we have a chance to preserve the philosophy, but maybe get access to pools of talent our current coaching staff can't reach.

So, is that completely tuck?

just get the best goddam recruiter we can <---anything that is not this is completely tuck IMO

i still think snyder philosophy + talent would work really damn well, if nothing else changed (like strategy, having boring unis and the boring 16 goal thing). that's basically 2012. they do regularly coach bottom 10% talent into top 40 teams, if only they could get top 40 talent. like crap, is that too much to ask?

I think the idea is that top 40 talent is just "too un-coachable" for the Snyder system.  They are all prima donnas, blah blah blah, etc..

I also think the staff is just lazy and/or misguided. Are they allowed to go on the road during the season yet?

2002 class broke snyder.

i just looked at the last few years rankings, we're not that far off top 40 actually. maybe it's more than a lack of talent after all.

would it surprise anyone if Bill was burying imperfect, high talent players down the depth chart under perfect, low talent players? (speaking in general terms)

IMO the following constraint will be put on any possible coaching search:

* Coached or played under LHC Bill Snyder

Including this limitation (among others) I think the possible candidates are then only:

Jim Leavitt
Brent Venebles
These should be the only two phonecalls IMO.

The two people, yes. But I'd do it like this...

Brent Venables - As many calls as needed
Jim Leavitt - Brent said no 250 times, so we called you.

I still think we’d attract plenty of candidates by offering a minimum of $5m and complete control of the program.

We most definitely would attract quality candidates.

So our options for a competent coach are a 62 year old that hasn’t been a head coach in a decade or a guy that has no intention of being a head coach.  I like our chances.

Bill should have left after 12 or even 14. I don't regret 2.0 though, 11-14 were worth it for me. I didn't hate 16-17 either, but now I realize that's the ceiling for this program, this year we are finally seeing the floor. It's not pretty.

Yeah, I'm not going to meltdown about this season. It sucks and I do want Bill to be done but everyone has to deal with garbage football at some point. Frankly the Ron Prince era could have been a lot more painful. OU had it for a decade, Alabama for nearly two decades. We'll be fine because people still care. This season will blow but Snyder elevated the expectations here.

Faithful to our colors, we will be until we face some turmoil

Spoiled a.f. but that's what Bill created, he has to deal with it.

What gives you confidence in our current AD to make a great hire?

What makes you think he can't? He hired the best coach in the FCS, twice. He clearly has an idea on what makes for a successful coach. He will have resources to hire a higher caliber coach than he did at NDSU.

Including this limitation (among others) I think the possible candidates are then only:

Jim Leavitt
Brent Venebles
Sean Snyder
Bert Bielma
Dana Dimel
Chuck Long
Mike Stoops
Mike Ekeler
Bob Stoops (but c'mon that's not happening)

(I might be missing someone...)

LOL, Gene isn't limiting his search to "Snyder Guys" that's preposterous. That list is ridiculous and I think you know that. There are three guys on that list who will come close to meriting consideration.

I want you guys to think about this name, not sure I've ever seen him mentioned, but he coached at NDSU under Bohl, Gus Bradley. I think if Gene Taylor hires the next football coach, he'll hire Gus Bradley.

Yes, you are correct on both accounts. I'm just currently uninspired by his whole demeanor.

I hadn't heard that name before. After a quick Google search... I wouldn't be upset with that hire. We could certainly do a lot worse.

I would not like a Gus Bradley hire.  He has zero FBS coaching experience.

Since we are wishing ..... Bob Stoops.
He has something to rebuild.
No pressure like at Oklahoma
We would love him more than Synder.
Stoop would let Bill stand on sidelineate and drool or play with his.purple balls.
