I agree she's got no shot at being president right now. BUT she could move center on fiscal policy and get there. And people have VERY short memories on that stuff. I don't think she will though. She seems to genuinely believe in where she lands now, which is good, but won't help her.

Lol. You think she’s going to be president? Did you blackout during the Bernie campaigns or something?
She's way better than Bernie

I love how the knee jerk reaction to her by some was that she is a stupid, know-nothing loudmouth when she's proven to be both very smart and politically savvy.

I think in 8-12 years mainstream positions will shift in her direction, even if they don't quite get all the way there. Like all the Dem primary candidates endorsed the green new deal and people thought it was bat crap crazy a year ago.

Yeah, demographics and aversion to socialism (the word) are changing quickly. It's going to be an interesting time when millenials are old people and zoomer's kids are super mean to us and stuff.

horned up boomers secretly can't stop thinking about her which keeps her much more relevant than she would be typically.

Better add a few more years to the presidential campaign estimate.

That's my president

Once she turns 35 it's going to be one helluva ride watching her just absolutely wreck crap on her way to a presidency (and I don't really care for her that much, just goddamn). Maybe she'll try in 2024 (she'll technically be over 35 by Jan 20, 2025), but still. If I could bet on who will be the first female prez (even with whoever Diamond Joe picks as VP and he could pass and could ascend assuming he wins in November), she has got to be in very favorable odds, and I would throw money on it.

Are you interested in a wager?

Conservatives are crossing lines right now. I'm voting for Biden. Good luck however, getting them to go uber left. She has said a lot of dumb things still, chum. Just because people are waking up and starting to make a movement for justice and change, doesn't mean they'll go full radicalized.

That's my general feeling too (and not saying she would even try in 2024) but I could see her being a prez before whomever Biden has a VP does. She is a lightning rod, right or wrong, for better or worse. If you don't think she could IMO then how the hell did we end up with the current prez (electoral college aside). I just think she's got a lot of tools in the kit to win in these times, slays at twitter, polarizing, and she will get so much play on the news media because of the things she says. It's basically the trump play book. It'll happen at some point IMO.

I could be filtering this through my own bias, but GND initially was mocked for being substantive policy, now it's more of a buzz word and idea. Granted it helped spur on alot of conversation and greater consensus on the left about what deep decarbonization should be.

Here's a good read on it

https://insideclimatenews.org/news/02012020/green-new-deal-future-2020-election-climate-change-sanders-ocasio-cortez

It kind of touches on how much easier it is to sell than a carbon tax. It's a good example of why AOC is so good IMO.

it's easy to overestimate how well-known someone like aoc is.  she is obviously a big deal on twitter and on fox news and she gets oversized-coverage from the political media in general.  but she's still just a freshman rep with a thinner political resume than pete buttigieg.  i think she's a very talented politician, but she's a long ways from being able to mount a credible campaign for the presidency and i don't see an easy route for her to close that gap.

Fortunately for her, a presidential campaign can apparently be successful without being credible.

yeah she's probably 8 years away. according to that graph she's right there with multiple credible Presidential candidates and as you mentioned she's a freshman rep. I mean Obama went from state senator to president in 4 years.

only if hillibrand or schumer drop out. she doesn't have a ton to gain TBH, she's more well known than most senators as is.

credible was the wrong word to use.  buttigieg ran a credible campaign.  people took him seriously and he impacted the direction and outcome of the results.  but he never had a chance of winning.  maybe competitive would be a better word.  aoc could run.  she'd raise a ton of money.  she'd get press coverage, she'd probably impact the race in some way.  but she wouldn't win.

re. obama, it was probably important that he won a statewide race before running.  i don't think he'd have won without that legitimacy.  but even at that, i don't think 2008 obama could have won in 2020.  experience and an established political identity were more important this last cycle than in 2008.  the electorate was in no mood for hope and change in 2020.  we'll see what the electorate wants in 2024, but i'm guessing it will be closer to 2020 than 2008.

farther out than that, god knows, but, one way or another, aoc won't be a fresh face by then anyways.
