The problem is that none of these policies will ever get through even a pretty favorable Senate unless there is some real magic and the filibuster is gone.

even then.  there aren't 50 dem senators that would vote for any of these and there probably aren't 30 that would vote to get rid of the filibuster.

while you're right that they shouldn't campaign on crap that no one likes, there's also a danger in campaigning too hard on stuff that can't be enacted.  most voters aren't that tuned in, they're just gonna look up in four years and be like "this lying liar didn't do any of the stuff she said she was going to.  must be in the pocket of the big banks or whoever it is i think is secretly ruling the country."

I don't know how to answer the Obama question, I have a lot of thoughts on it.  Sherrod Brown is a very good union guy, but he's not on the Medicare 4 All train and I don't really understand why and so he's irrelevant for now.

He supports lowering age for Medicare eligibility to 55 or 50 as a next step. He says this is because Medicare for all would never pass, which seems similar to what you were saying above.

I think offering people a vision of what things should look like and then explaining how we would get there is a much better path forward than compromising with yourself before you even start negotiating.

I watched 20/20 friday the story was on BTK, it was fascinating how cavalier he was with describing horrific atrocities and how certain he was that serial killing was like respectable honorable work.  I don't know why this thread made me think of that but here we are.

I don't claim to know much about politics, but it seems this strategy would definitely hinder him in the primary, though could help him in the general election. Which is a bit of a catch-22.

I don't actually believe that there are more people that would like some sort of "compromise" position than just being all-in on Medicare For All.  The precise thing everyone hates about Obamacare is navigating the "marketplace" and all of the shitty parts about private insurance and Republicans are going to call it a government takeover of medicine and socialism anyway, so why not actually offer some actual benefits instead of trying to come up with a "market based solution" that will just leave people off and make the coverage worse and more expensive for those it does cover?

Did you know that BTK sent lead detective Ken Landwehr a floppy disc that exposed who he was via metadata, and that before he did he asked Ken if it would be safe for him to do so,  Landwehr responded in a classified ad that It will be ok.

it would seem to me that he's been the most consistently populist/social welfare dude other than sanders.  i understand the vision thing and it's probably the better politics.  campaign in poetry, govern in prose and all that.  but for someone like yourself who views the senate through the exact same lens as he does, you're kind of docking him points for not being willing to lie to voters.

anyways, if there is someone i'm not fair to due to my biases, i think it's brown.  something about him rubs me the wrong way.

if you accept an incrementalist approach, this is self-evidently a much better approach in terms of both politics and policy that brown's outline.

0-30 would be better politically.

you would need to triple our tax rates to pay for this, probably more than that for some because people at the top would be over 100%

Would also cost way, WAY less than 50-current eligible age.
