We have split electoral votes so I tell myself my vote matters but I don’t know what math would have to play out for that to actually be the case.

Don't worry SD, when the meltdown finally hits critical mass (and we're a long way away from that) the electoral college will be abolished and your vote will no longer matter.   Grab some swag off the table on your way out . . . kids just love those bouncy balls with the LED lights in them, so grab a couple of those for the youngsters.   Thanks for stopping in.

There won't be an electoral college to worry about in a few years and then you can be assured that your fly over country vote won't matter at all.

I live in Texas, my vote already doesn't count.

I think the primary process needs to change.  Basically 4-5 states determine who the nominee for each party will be.

Is the Biden appeal like 95% Obama-related? I don't see at all how he fits into the vision for the modern Democratic Party.
Maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t think the bulk of the Democratic Party voters are nearly as far left as some of the more vocal members and the (social) media representation.

I promise I just saw this now and not before I posted last night...

That’s all well and good, but the research they actually cited and linked in that claim is here:

8man, that last one more likely shows movement in how voters perceive the ideological direction of the democratic party than movement in the ideological direction of voters.

texas is a contested state now.  although maybe you're talking about the primary.

I would agree that voters perceive that the party has shifted.  Seems they would like it to be more moderate than their current perception.

i guess i'm trying to draw a distinction between whether the party has shifted and whether voters perceive that the party has shifted.

like there could be perfect stasis in both the party ideology and the mean voter ideology, but the response could differ if voters perceived that the party ideology had not been static.

Certainly.  I think what has happened is that they have all moved left in different increments. Party perception furthest, party ideology in the middle, and mean voter ideology least.

that seems like a probable scenario.

I have to say I respect that sys has shifted his off-season focus on to a kenpom like obsession with weird candidates for president that will never win and don't seem to even have any consistent ideology.
