Texas Tech. Could be the start of Oscar's nirvana!
« on: February 05, 2018, 06:26:18 AM »
First, I think we could win.  But i am dang skeptical we will.  Why?  We are tired, and I am not sure THE OSCAR demands toughness.  Texas has a human rejector guarding the rim, a 3 point Roach, and a snazzy freshman.  We have Mawien and the Keystone cops, poor 3 point shooting, and no freshmen.

Gene Taylor said he wants us to win conference titles.  We are fighting for the sixth at best.  We have to sweep Texas, and beat OSU, ISU and TCU.   Winning this game puts is essential if this is going to be a good year.  A loss may very well be the beginning of the end for Weber.

I watch all conference games.  Texas is getting better every game.  Outplayed TT in Lubbock and should have won.  If they beat us they may end up competing with TT and KU for 1st by the end of the conference race.  Last few games, they have been making easy threes and tough threes.  Hope they break that habit when they play us.

Do we still have the coveted "Consecutive Conference Home Non-Losing Seasons" thingy, or did that go bye-bye sometime?

Brown Roach matchup is the key.  Mombo in the middle will be a challenge for Brown.  IMO he and Diarra has to foul this guy out.  Can't let Roach go beserk.

I believe this might be the week that decides oscar for this season at least.

Texas isn't very good. Every team in this conference has looked like they were improving until they didn't.

I don't think KState could have beaten a single conf opponent the way it played the last 3 games. Right before that couldn't lose to a team in this conf.

I agree. I think we lose to Texas and somehow beat Tech at home.

Need RSVPs for this game's chat.  It's on longhorn network, so I'd either have to do some extra stuff to use XT or somebody's login to be able to watch at home on a less than stellar stream but still be able to chat solidly, or go to the bar and not be able to chat well or probably at all.

It's criminal that the big 12 is allowing such an important game for wednesday slotting to take place on lhn.

Should I watch it?  Probably not.

Yes.
You, like the rest of us, became aware of that streak during the Wooly years. We've had nothing close to as bad as Wooly and Asbury. It's very difficult for a P5 school to have a losing home record because if the team is mediocre to horrible their non con would be filled with sub 200 RPIs, meaning you'd only need one or two home conference wins. I'd guess Mizzou went sub .500 one of the Kim Anderson years but other than that I can't think of another one recently.

That's fair. Basketball discussion used to be the best of any K-State venue here, but not enough people care anymore. There are other venues where a few more people are willing to discuss the games and the team without every thread devolving into another oscar sucks discussion. I've heard enough oscar sucks stuff, I just still enjoy talking about this team, even with the ups and downs.

Fan, from your experience is fatigue a good excuse for the steep drop off on shooting percentage? I knew we weren't going to be able to shoot lights out forever, but I always thought we would fall to a more average number that still kept us in games. Dropping to stupid low numbers boggles the mind a little. We are taking less shots near the basket, so I am guessing that when you take jump shots instead of layups your shooting percentage would drop. . .but this much?

We play 2 games a week, fatigue would be a pretty terrible excuse.

We got hammered at home in a game a lot of us thought we should at least compete - coming off an excellent run of play, no less. The environment was certainly set. Then we lost as bad as we've lost in 20 years to a team coming off losing 5 of 6. I think many of us would prefer to focus on the games, but when your coach is losing by 38 in year 6 and doesn't have a single competent 5 and only the semblance of a competent bench, where should our focus be?
