Robben out now too, ouch. The Dutch have fire power to make up for it though....

usa pretty much dominated a lackluster Aussie side this morning in the final friendly.   Buddle made the most of a turnover by the AUS defense early on and pounded a shot past the keeper from about 15 yards out.   later in the half he headed down a cross from wing back Cherundolo to take a 2-1 lead.  Gomez added a 3rd off a tap in from a skidding pass into the area by Donovan.  a couple big misses from Findley kept the US from putting away the game early in the 2nd half.  Clark limped off the field holding his hammy/glut after starting and playing 85 minutes.  Edu or Torres might have to fill in.  not a Clark fan so i don't think it would be a big drop of at that position if he can't go next Saturday.  6 mother rough ridin' days till the first kick

updated preferred starting XI

                         howard
cherundolo onyewu demerit bocanegra

             bradley           torres

donovan                              dempsey

           altidore             buddle

That sucks. I love watching him play, and I'm always rooting for the Dutch when they aren't playing the US.  They have a great team, but I still see this as a pretty big loss for them until he gets back.

robben update:  http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/37541344/ns/sports-world_cup/

Quote
AMSTERDAM - Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk says winger Arjen Robben is likely to join his teammates at the World Cup in South Africa because his left hamstring injury isn't as bad as initially feared.

God I wish this is what we start out with against England. But knowing Bradley, we'll probably start with Ricardo Clark and Beasley in there. Meanwhile Torres and Buddle will be nowhere near the field  :embarrassed:

the book on Bob Bradley http://theshinguardian.com/2010/06/07/england-the-book-on-bob-bradley/

above is my favored lineup.  here, i think, is the starting lineup according to the conventional wisdom:

Quote
                       howard

cherundolo goodson demerit bocanegra

             bradley           clark

donovan                              dempsey

           findley                 altidore

with the back 4 in crisis i don't mind loading up the middle of the field with some leg breakers like bradley and clark.  i just hope they aren't red carded for a stupid tackle.  the danger from England will come from the speed they possess in their wingbacks: Ashley Cole and Glen Johnson.  if Dempsey is hanging out on the left side look for England to run up and down that (their right) side with Johnson.  Donovan will track back on the opposite flank covering Cole on his runs.  Cole could be considered the best left back in the game.  an honor equivalent to the best hitting catcher in the game of baseball.  the talent seeks to play elsewhere on the field.

less than 72 hours until mexico  v  south africa   :pbj:

Calling exhibition games "friendlies"?  Seriously?

I will admit that long Nike soccer commercial on youtube was pretty cool.

In watching the ESPN coverage, I'm picking up a vibe that Alexi Lalas has a beef with the coach or manager or whatever.  Am I just imagining that?

i think it's his job to the be the only ESPN staffer who is a critical observer of tactics and decisions.  not a fan of his analysis

3 hour world cup preview on ESPN2 airing @ 9am & 6p.  i'm sure we'll get an overdose of the red haired freak

lalas is a HUGE tool.  Worked for MLS and tried to characterize the English leagues as not that much better.  Was an apologist for Donovan when he was being an enormous baby (pretty much his whole career pre- Confederation's Cup).  Just overall loser.
