If he is any good the Spanish will cap him

That was my first thought.. But 11 years old. Two American parents. Plus USMNT will be better when he's of age. He could come back to play with us.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

The kid at Barca is probably more interesting. They have a MUCH better youth development program.

I don't know about that. Really gonna depend on the state of the American program at that time. There are some pretty talented players from America under the age of 16.

Messi went to Barca at 11 and he plays for Argentina.  FWIW.

In unrelated news, what are futbolers saying about Dempsey to the MLS.  Good for MLS - bad fro MNT?  I mean, our MNT is better if our best are in Europe playing against the best talent, no?  On flip side, will MLS ever really take off if our best players aren't here?

Discuss.

Pretty important question, but you answered it yourself. It's an incredible move for the MLS in more ways than one: marketing to the potential fans and it sends a clear message that the MLS is serious and willing to spend money on players that can still play in the top leagues. It will pay dividends down the line, imho.

Don't think it is good for Dempsey personally, or for the MNT. I heard Jurgen is not happy with it. Dempsey wasn't exactly moving up the roster at Tottenham, so I do think it's good that he moved from there and will be getting a TON more minutes, but I don't think he will face enough competition to make him a better player. On the flip side, with Eddie Johnson playing there, it might give them the chance to develop chemistry, despite the fact that E.J. will more than likely play on the wing instead of up top during MNT play.

Great for MLS. Neutral for USMNT. Jurgen can deal with it. If Dempsey gets worse, it's because he's getting older, not because his competition is weaker. He'll be getting lots and lots of minutes. That's the bottom line.

how'd the finances end up working out on the $9M transfer fee?  too lazy to read right now, but the mls covering at least a portion of it seemed like a strange scenario i hadn't heard about before this
