pinto beans are refried beans, just not mashed up and cooked.

i hate black beans, they're disgusting.  also hate lima beans and fava beans.  not a huge fan of black eyed peas but will eat if prepared correctly.  never had soybeans.

i don't mind kidney beans and navy beans, or garbanzo beans (hummus).

Oh man, I LOVE hummus.  Thanks for reminding me.  I think I'll have some.

Hummus is fantastic.  Love it when the pita is grilled and has some char going on.  Also great with hummus- cucumber and bell peppers.  Leave the filfy ass olive out of my hummus, please!  (Olive oil is cool though.)

Grilled chicken (marinated with crushed garlic, olive oil, lemon, cayenne, salt, pepper) with hummus and radishes, parsley, and diced tomatoes is amazing.

Also, no idea what this thread is about. Just saw "hummus" and got excited thinking about radishes.

The name is based on a mistranslation: in Mexican Spanish, the prefix re is an informal form of emphasis meaning "very" or "well", which has been confused with the English re and the most common use of the Spanish (Latin) prefix re outside Mexico, which more often indicates repetition. Thus, frijoles refritos really means "well-fried beans", not "refried beans"

Great to know! I had always just assumed they were fried twice as a twice baked potato is baked twice (rebaked potato?).

You know who else eats just a can of beans for a meal?  Old-timey, train-hopping hobos.  And they're god-damned happy to have them.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

They're also very popular with poor Egyptians. Foul mudammas = bowl of I-wish-I-could-afford-meat-or-maybe-a-McArabia.

update- just had another double helping of refrieds from cactus grille, KC's home to authentic mexican flavors.  two thumbs up and 5 stars to the chef.
