Few Stats & Thoughts after 10-2 NonCon games

1) biggest positive for me is the lack of TOs.  In 10 of last 11 games, our TO% has been 17.0 or under. 5 times it was under 14.0

2) Team FT shooting - last 11 games we are at 76.3% which is very good

3) The Big 4 is at 35.7% on 3 pt shooting. The 2 awful shooting games prevented this from being 40%

4) Maiwen has made 29 of his last 34 2Pt FGA.  He's 36-45 on the year.  Best game of the year last night

5) Wainright - 28 Rebounds & just 3 TOs, while hitting 56.3 % on eFG in his last 111 minutes on the court (8 games).   Those add up to solid numbers per 100 Poss (it's 10 Reb 1 TO per 40 min)

6) Diarra - Scoreless in 5 of last 9 games. Shooting just 44% eFG and 2-14 3pt in those 9 games.  I sure hope he brings more than this in B12 action. His 1 TO in last 84 minutes on the court is only bright side.

7) 9 of 12 games, we shot 56% or better on 2pt%. 57.5% on the year on 2pt FGs

 Yes, going 9-3 would have been a disaster.

Our offensive stats vs 3 Power-6 teams (2 road 1 nuetral) have been good.  58.9 eFG%, 64% on 2pt, 82% FT, TO% under 16.0.  2 of those 3 aren't Tourney teams, but those numbers vs WVU/Ou/Texas last year away from home would have been damn good.

I learn we are good when we shoot good, but bad when we don't.
Oscar's poke and prod offense needs a few set plays.
We have a couple of average guys on the bench, no one who comes in and lights a spark
5 guys who are post players, and we haven't got much yet, Mawein is trying.
We will be doomed if in any game one of the CatFour flops.  All have to average 15 pts per game per person.
Wainwright has grit.
Diarra ain't yet.

I always enjoy your posts PP.  I love college bball and am trying to get excited about this team but just can't.  I guess it's because there's no lovable player?  I don't like any of these guys....maybe Wainright because he busts his ass to the boards????  We are clearly going to live and die by the 3 which will lead to some big upsets and some horrible losses.   Maybe i'll come around....but all in all probably another forgettable season.  Thanks oscar.

It's a team as meh as its coach. Totally lacking in star power. In a few years, casual fans will have trouble remembering the starters' names even through four will be three- or four-year starters. May upset WV or TCU, but the most welcome thing about the season will be its end. It should be obvious to all now that Oscar is going to swim in the bottom of this conference.

I think we have some fun players. Stokes, Wade, Brown, Sneed all have redeeming qualities and can play some good basketball. Wainright is a scrappy guy that people should like. I'm not sure on Mawein or Diarra yet.

I know it's a bad basketball metric but I'm going to use it.  According to the eye test, even though he hasn't played much, I really like Diarra.  Did I miss your take or why are you still on the _fence about him?  I probably have jumped the gun on the small sample size.

I like his potential, but he's been pretty up and down, of course there were reports he got dinged up a little bit. I'm probably being a bit too hard him based on his last few games.

Yeah I mean idk, it's almost too small of a sample size to draw conclusions.  Based on your stats tho he has the 3rd highest 3pt% but also has the most turnovers.  Based on limited stats those averages are influenced a lot by minor contributions in playing time.  That's why they play the game.

True. Minutes might be hard to come by too. Barry and Kam probably both play at least 35 mpg in the league.

Kansas State nearly beat ASU Devils, the 3rd ranked team in the nation.  So we are capable.  On a.good night we can beat most anyone in the league.  Tulsa or ORU style won't cut it.

The crazy thing about ASU is we really won't know how good they are until the tourney. Pac 12 is not good. I could see them having a Gonzaga type year - 30-4 #1 seed - and then losing in the 2nd round of the tournament.
