MORAL DILEMMA
« on: October 03, 2017, 03:31:01 PM »
I recently registered a MyTimeRewards card to use at my local BreakTime convenience store. It's one of those cards where you earn points with every purchase towards free stuff. I often purchase 32oz beverages there but little else.  So the first time I swiped it said I qualified for a free drink.  Sweet!  I thought it was probably because it was my first purchase after registering.  Then it happened the 2nd time, and just today the 3rd time.  I think there is a glitch that is giving me free drinks every swipe.  I haven't purchased anything else in between.  Should I --

1)  Say nothing. Free drinks forever.  Just take a second and think about that.  It's basically like having a fairy that just gives you $1.29 whenever you are thirsty.  Wow, pretty cool.

2)  Speak up.  Correct the glitch.  Pay for your drinks, but drink them with a clear conscience as a man of integrity.

The swipe you're talking about is one you're making so that - aside from this "glitch" - you'd be getting points for purchasing a drink?

think the correct thing to do is order something bigger, like a bag of jerky, and see if you can get that for free also

If you're talking about drinking 32 oz of soda on the reg, you should probably cut back anyway. Even the diet stuff is probably bad for you.

And for all moral quandaries, I just go back to Kant's categorical imperative, which is a super fancy way of saying, "would you want to live in a world where everyone else did the same thing under similar circumstances?"

Yeah.

I'm not yet convinced there's any glitch.  I signed up for a similar card at the gas station where I moved.  The deal was the first time I used the card, I'd get a bonus $10 of reward credit.  So I've bought a drink, and now have $10 of credit to use on more drinks, which seems like a bad deal for them.  Maybe you're in a similar situation.

If it's grating at you, log in to the account for the card online and see what it says.

you need to stick it to the man every single chance that you’re given the opportunity to

do they feel bad for charging you $1.30 for a soft drink that costs them 15 cents?  nope, they will bend you over and smile right to your rough ridin' face while they’re doing it.  every single chance that they’re given to.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Go for a drink/ho’ do’/bag-o-chips combo and see what happens. Everybody knows the ho’ do’ is where they make their primo cash

If you're talking about drinking 32 oz of soda on the reg, you should probably cut back anyway. Even the diet stuff is probably bad for you.

Almost never soda aka pop.  Usually unsweetened iced tea.  Sometimes I fill it up like 2/3 with iced tea then add 1/3 lemonade. Sometimes I get the raspberry unsweetened iced tea.  NEVER sweet tea.  Sweet tea is disgusting. Sometimes if I'm feeling really thirsty I'll get the SoBe LifeWater from the fountain.  It's pretty refreshing.  And then rarely, when feeling a little crazy, I'll get a Sierra Mist.

Thanks for the advice everyone.  Going after work.  I'll report back on the status of my MORAL DILEMMA.

Went to buy a 32oz Raspberry Iced Tea and Sunbelt Sweet & Salty granola bar this afternoon.  Full price.  Not free and no discount.  At first I was disappointed, but that quickly turned to relief.  It's over.  But what a ride.

man, how fast was your heart pounding when you went up to the cashier?  for those of us that haven't experienced that, what would you most compare that rush to?
