LOL what a bunch of idiots.  From what I gather they sent the Bitcoin to some CoinBase and Binance addresses where the private keys were stored on servers in California and under US jurisdiction. Glad we got it back but those are some stupid hackers.

Can that possibly be true? Like, this was a "hacker" group that held a pipeline company for ransom? Those same people transferred the coins to Coinbase? Were they then just going to have the money sent to their personal Chase bank accounts? These are either the dumbest "hackers" on the planet or I'm a bit dubious.

What’s your fiat off ramp as a savvy hacker?

Maybe they were caught off guard after years of unsuccessful hacking attempts. They didn't expect the pipeline company ransom demand to work and went with the best option they could come up with on short notice.

Def not a hacker, but I probably would have avoided Coinbase for at least a week after my successful hacking attempt.  :dunno:

I’m not being snarky, just generally curious about how someone like that would potentially go about liquidating it.  If I got several million in bitcoin illegally I’m not really sure how I would go about it.

Going through a highly regulated US publicly traded company definitely seems risky. Other than that I have no pointers for would be hackers.

Same. I have no idea how you would "cash out", but I def would have at least waited a bit before walking in to the most popular place with my ID in hand.

There are mixing services and wallets where you can do it yourself too.

I don’t buy anything as an investment with plans to sell within the next 20 years, so I’m actually loving the idea of being in the midst of a bear market for once.
BUMP!

No idea what that means but I’ll still keep throwing some cash at BTC and ETH cause I have a 0% chance of getting rich quick otherwise.
