I don't understand slobber's story.
Why would it be abuse?
Also is "tractor ride over a plowed field" a euphemism?

rape?
That is just mean towards my father. He was a nice man who would not do that sort of thing.

Not a euphemism, and not misogynistic, either!

It could have been considered abuse if my dad had forced my mom, who was past due, to go for a bumpy ride over a plowed field in a tractor. That doesn't seem like it would be fun, but then again, I have never been pregnant, so maybe not?

Well your dad forcing your mom to do anything (whether she was pregnant or not) would most likely be abuse. (You, as a misogynist, may not have realized that.)

Expecting first kid in August. I hate buying things I don't need. Not a full on minimalist, but as close as my wife will tolerate. Any advice on things you bought that were absolutely NOT necessary? I don't want to deprive my child of all material possessions, but I also don't want them (and me) drowning in useless crap.

travel system
wipe warmer
bottle warmer

one thing I highly recommend, is a Marpac Dohn sound machine

I'm going to gamble that this advice is going to be totally slammed by you youngsters but, DO NOT teach your kids sign language in lieu of letting them learn to speak normally. Somewhere in the early millennial round of parents, someone got the cockamamie idea that kids grow up better if they don't have to be frustrated learning how to speak. Frustration is also known as facing an obstacle and learning to overcome it. It's part of life.

You can thank me later after you save money on speech therapists.

we actually taught our eldest some, as he was speech delayed due to some ear issues.   I don't think a full range is necessary, but "more please" was great.

Diaper genie = total waste

Disagree, keeps it nice and contained, all the way to the curb.

disagree, keeping a giant pile of baby crap in your child's room is disgusting.  take that crap straight to the garage trashcan.

Yep.  Also one of those semi circle pillow things.  The combo of these two things, with my second kid, allowed me to get up in the middle of the night, sit in the recliner, really lock him in with the pillow so that there was no way he could fall, then go to sleep while rocking him.  Was a life saver.

Mikey I'm glad you enjoyed the diaper genie but I debunked it several pages ago.  It sucks.  When you finally realize it sucks you'll be astonished you ever thought it was a good idea in the first place.  I know I did.

If you don't get a diaper genie, get the scented trash bags at least.  We thought our diaper genie did a fine job, fwiw.

We put each poop diaper in a plastic bag from the grocery store. Got the poop out of the house asap. Diaper genie is gross. "Hey, let's see how many poopie diapers we can store in the house at one time without causing a nuclear type fallout!"

Diaper genie is fine.  When my daughter craps, if she is downstairs we just change her there and take it out.  Not much poo goes in the dg

Can you imagine what it must be like to be SB's kid and never know the disappointment of being a Wildcat fan? Like, this kid obviously loves the 'Cats, but has never been let down by them.

What a feeling that must be.
