Ydrggarggd, buy her the settting she wants and get a diamonique(fake) stone.  Tell her or don't, she would never know though.  Replace it later if its that important (pro tip: it won't be).

This is a pretty shitty talking pt  put together by jewellery ppl.  It would be like letting Cadillac tell you how much you should spend on a car.

They do, if you want to buy a Cadillac.

One of my kids (not sure which) threw a Hot Wheel in the sink, and it got stuck in the garbage disposal.

I know this because my wife turned on the disposal and it blew the motor.

(Sigh.)

Yep. Went out and got the replacement tonight.

I mean...it just had to hold out five weeks.  But, no.

Actual issue I'm dealing with.  I don't make much money at all. . .and the ring the potential Mrs. ydarg wants will cost me around 6k. Don't know how to even go about getting that kind of money together.

I think it's pretty selfish for a girl to want/expect that type of ring from you if she thinks/knows it will put immense strain on your finances.  A girl is also shooting herself in the foot in that scenario, since your finances are about to merge.  And then there's the whole wedding thing.  If she wants a $6K engagement ring, what kinda wedding we talking about here, and who's paying?

In the next year or two she will not be hurting financially. She wants a low cost wedding.  From what i gather the money she thinks needs spent is on ring and dress, and what I think needs spent is on DJamer and booze.  We haven't delved too deep into the who would pay considering I haven't actually asked yet. I'm confident about her answer. . .but I don't want her to open the little box and be disappointed.

I'll give you a great deal on a $5k ring AND I'll DJamer the wedding for free.

They aren't going to even remember going if it is before 5 years old.

I had a friend who worked their one summer. He said the job was actual hell on earth, but that the compound where they house all the college aged employees is Bob Strawn's worst nightmare.

Just go to World's of Fun and call it good. The kid won't know the difference - actually you could just take a 20 month old to Chucky Cheese and they wouldn't know the difference.

I thought about this and was going to lock my offspring in a closet until they were at least 5 but then decided that I'd interact with them and do fun stuff anyway.
