I'm pretty impressed that lil'emo hasn't been forced to "finish off" a squirrel or stab a cat or something yet 

I want him to know what it means to kill something before he ever actually kills something (like hunting or fishing or whatever).  If I were to catch him stomping bugs or something I'd try to interrupt and explain that he's killing something, and that once it's gone it's gone, something like that. 

I used to catch a crap ton of grasshoppers and put them in a big jar and then drop in a bunch of firecrackers.  I don't think I want my kid to do that.

i wouldn't feel comfortable with my nerf rival zeus mxv-1200 blaster in a child's hands, the nerf balls it shoots would do some damage to the eyes.  of course i  have a strict eye protection policy in place for whenever the gun comes out but still.

While it is awesome to just fire off the whole clip in hail of automatic fire it does take a  second or two to spin up so it is not the best choice for stealthy tactics.

Oh yes, me and the wife each have one of these.  We both take great pleasure in unloading a full clip into our children (10, 13, and 16).  Who of course shoot back with their own nerf guns. At least once a month our basement becomes a battleground of nerf fun. Tables upturned, couches rearranged, etc.

When they hear this thing spool up, they dive for cover.
