when we talk about k-state doing much better than oscar weber, we should start with someone who's career coaching statistics actually are better

Okay, besides clams who is a nay?
On the fence. Not a huge Martin fan. But he wouldn't be a bad hire. We'd be relevant again.

are there reasons beside the desire to win that push you to support frank?  i mean, i guess his macho thing is cool and he seems fun.

but you're our stats guy, what am i missing?  oscar has proven that he is more than capable of winning more basketball games over a much longer period of time than your guy.  shine the light, _FAN.

I think Frank and K-State were a great fit. He's proven he can win here. I loved watching how his teams played.

I get the issues with his record at South Carolina and maybe he would come back here and repeat it, but I'm not sold that would be the case. It has taken him longer than I expected to build a tournament team there, but he's going this year.

Also, I think the chances of him actually coming back are very small.

5 years. 4 NCAAs. 1 NIT. An Elite 8. A tournament win every year. A top 3 defense in the league 4 of the 5 years. Won 60% of his Big 12 games and was never .500 or worse. .500 record on the road in Big 12 play. Won 45% of his games against the RPI Top 50.

Buy yeah, wanting Frank back is just based on emotions.

selectively citing particular statistics to bolster your case isn't helping your case, it's only proving my point.
oscar has won a crap load more games over a crap load longer time than frank.  both's career stats are helped by inheriting a ton of talent from others.

this all is a non-starter anyway but to see you try and ignore the numbers is surprising

I'm not ignoring the numbers but I guess you could saying I'm being selective and the data set is too narrow to make a proper decision.

Agree to disagree.

But Frank I know Frank isn't coming back. I just really enjoyed him coaching at K-State and I think he's still a very good coach.

Frank is a much better coach at K-State than oscar Weber.  Unless you have never seen either of them coach ever and you only look at regular season record.  That doesn't mean Frank is at the top of my list, but would take.

I'm sure the record at South Carolina is part of the implication on Frank, but he's gotten better every year there. It took longer than I thought, but he now has the #2 defense in college basketball and is poised for the future. He's about to have a run there like he did during his 5 years with us. Frank Martin is a very good college basketball coach.

He fits at a mid-major.  A place that he can compete for the conference and has no real aspirations in the tournament.  He would also be a good employee at a hardware store or something.

Maybe I value trajectory more than I should, but that is the difference maker to me.  When Frank took over at KSU, he quickly got the program back on the national stage and kept it there.  Yes, Huggins helped bring in some guys, but Frank was able to actually turn it into something.  Frank then took over a terrible (like last in conference I think) SC team that is now on the verge of going to the Tournament.  And of course we are now on the outside looking in after several years with oscar.

If we're comparing Frank's and oscar's coaching records the only fair metric is to compare their records at Kansas State, given they took over the program in very similar conditions. How does oscar compare here?

I have to like our coaches in order to cheer for them.  That's just me tho.

If you liked LHC Bill Snyder 1.0 it was because you learned to. He wasn't a likeable coach, we weren't a likeable program and we liked it that way.

I was an early adopter, but mostly because of my age.  I've loved him since the fall of 1993.  Not sure about the learned to part.  That has nothing to do with how those outside of KSU felt.
