Why would oscar leave for a mid major?

Why do you guys think we are capable of assessing a coach without giving undue weight to a NCAA tournament appearance but an athletic director, new or old can't?

Does having thousands on posts on a board full of snarky millennials and gen xers provide some magical insight not available to others?

Can you imagine the level of apathy and angst surrounding this program if Oscar came back next year?

Because he may not want to take the chance of an athletic director that didn't hire him, to possibly not extend his soon to be expiring contract? Is that difficult to figure out? What am I missing here?

Apparently professionals that get paid six to seven figures a year to figure these things out can't imagine, but we have it nailed.

He would be better off money wise letting himself not get extended (if he believed that is even a possibility).  The mid major job is there for him anyway.  No need to waste a year of major conference salary.

They are not paid to figure those things out. At a football school, basketball is the family hamster. Just keep it alive.

Any guesses an the percentage he gets extended? My guess is roughly 3%. Then he's going into another season where he's going to have to replace at least two players from a seven man rotation, at least a small rebuild from a team that snuck into the tournament. I don't know how much he believes in himself but how can next season be anything but a death march?

Interest would be fine. They'll build up a good record in an easy non-con and win enough to keep fan interest decent throughout conference play. Just like this year.

It certainly won't be worse than it would be for Steve Forbes or some mid major coach I've never heard of.

I'd be okay with Forbes, but he vs Weber is probably a wash when you just look at basketball results. I just want Weber gone because I'm tired of him.

I'd say it's better than 50%.

I think people should prepare for what's coming though.

If oscar somehow wins the next 2 (Tech and BU/ISU/WVU) he likely goes dancing. Laird is not going to fire that and everyone knows it.

But he may lose to Tech at home.

Who knows?

What are the odds of winning both of those games, though? 1/8 maybe?

I'd be ok with Forbes, too. I'm just saying he's not going to make a major bump in fan support next year compared to retaining oscar.

Things I hate besides losing:

I hate how he has to be on the court pointing to spots for his players to stand

I hate how you can hear him yell "Barry" or whoever when we are on the other end, over over

I hate his ExBruces with a passion

I hate how he doesn't cuss at the refs, cause you know, he is a nice guy

Awaiting the inevitable KITN

I have reached a point where I hate oscar's tendencies more than I hate losing.

Has the thing with him constantly shouting "BOX OUT" while the opponent shoots free throws been mentioned? It may be the bush league-ist thing any college basketball coach does on a routine basis.

It sure was last night in chat.  I was advocating for Dixon walking down there and backhanding him.
