I hate what the anonymous nature of the internet has done to degrade human interaction. I love that it has made the world smaller, I hate that words no longer have consequence and people are okay with that.

Definitely this.  I am happy that a lot of ppl feel more comfortable expressing themselves annon, but a whole lot of bad comes with that good.

I remember going to Emporia or Warrensburg or some place like that for some Duke thing.  I think I remember my dad indicating to me it was a big deal but then I can't remember actually doing anything other than showing up.  I think it was just a presentation or something?  It was probably a scam to get parents to pay for something to tell you their kid is smart.

I know what I am. As terrible as I am great. This thread is an example of how terrible I can be. My feelings on myself remain unchanged. I'm a good person that does bad things.

I got letters from Duke in 6th grade too.  Hopefully it won't cause me to go on a bizarre, irrational message board rant someday.

I am not defending SdK here; he doesn't need me to do that, and wouldn't want me to. I am friends with him in real life, and try to stay out of his business for the most part.  I did want to chime in about the Duke thing, though.  If I remember correctly, and I am in the education business so am aware of the Duke TIP program, SdK's contacts from Duke were beyond that. Early recruitment was definitely taking place. Since it's not my story to tell I will leave it at that.

The TIP program is actually pretty neat and I'm glad Duke does it. It's a bigger deal than this board makes it seem because this board as a whole is a lot smarter than the general population.

Taking the ACT early did nothing but waste a day and crush my self confidence as a youngster.  Although maybe that is what made me work hard to be successful today.
