The government is going to get their money, complaining about the way they collect it is kind of pointless. I don't pay a state income tax in Texas but I easily spend $150 a month in toll road fees and property taxes are higher here than in most of America.

My kids are going to pay for your welfare once you can no longer support yourself. You'll be a sponge most of your life. And I can pretty much guarantee I'm going to end up paying a significantly higher effective rate, and way way way more in total tax dollars than you, even after those dependent deductions.

Maybe there should just be a usage fee for ever-y-thing. Send your kids to school? Pay the fee. Drive across town on public roads? Pay the fee. Build your house in a new neighborhood that needs water/sewer? That's already called a special assessment tax.

I guess that gets kind of messy when you need to use police services though. I read a book where you had to pay any time you used police services and it was a crap show (another Octavia Butler book, "Parable of the Sower", very good).
