Big Shot Attorney Cats,  can you explain to me like I'm 5 what the appointment of the Special Prosecutor means? Basically, do you think it makes it more or less likely for Trump to rot in prison instead of becoming the next president?

It’s purely to put some distance between government that serves the executive (i.e., the President) and the subject of the investigation who is now a presidential candidate.

There are some obvious concerns of ethics/bias of Biden gets to appoint the head of a department that is investigating Trump. Biden can fire Garland and appoint a new AG if he wants, but he can’t fire the special prosecutor.

So if you believe that the DOJ was professional and doing its job up to this point (as I do) then it shouldn’t have much impact either way.

Yeah, cat summed it up. This was necessary d/t Trump's announcement that he's running. It will probably cause an initial delay with the Special Prosecutor getting up to speed, but it shouldn't otherwise slow down the process. Trump's pissing and moaning was also predictable, even though I'm sure they knew this was the preordained result of the announcement. There's not a whole lot to read into any of this.

I would guess the only way Trump takes a plea deal is posthumously by the estate.
