Baylor, TCU and KSU are insanely close on their analytical footprint. It is scary.

I don't know what the eff do some of the "fans" posting on this board expect out of our team.  So far we only lost to the top teams in our conference; with two of them possible CFP contenders.  We got a new QB with injuries and quite a few new players on this team.  How about we give these guys some time, cause I think we win the next three.
HAVE SOME FAITH, GOSHDAMNIT!

The thing is, we get pissed because we continually come up short against the top teams in conference and can't take that next step. We expect to win every game, damnit!

That would be nice, but all I'm saying is give these guys a chance before we start dogging them.

Several people mentioned this team being similar to 2011. They aren't wrong.

FWIW, I said this earlier this month when many/most were melting down. I still believe it.

I'm not hopeless like many people here though. I see this year and last as similar to 2009-11 when the staff was building a base for a run and I think that's what K-State football has to do. Much of our success is predicated by building an offense around a QB and I have hope for the future with the non-seniors we currently have on that side of the ball. Also, we have a base built for solid special teams/return games as well. That said, I do have questions on defense and whether we'll have enough there to support a good offense and special teams. We were far from great on defense in 11-12, but we had enough to support the offense and compete for a league title and be in the discussion for a national title. I'm not sure 17 or 18 will get quite to that level, but I can see pushing for 10 wins and finishing in the top 3 in the league if the current staff stays in place that long.

Yeah, you put Klein at QB and we probably have one loss, in contention for playoffs.

1. Go review Klein's 2011 numbers.
2. There is no category where this year's offense is worse than 2011.
3. Did Klein have some kind of magical power that didn't show up in the stats?

Is it Klein or is it Muppet Leavitt?

If we had Cam Newton, zombie Walter Payton, Rex Ryan, and Gary Spani we would be in contention for the playoffs.

I thought this year would look a lot like 2001, a good defense would carry a young offense. Obviously this hasn't been the case but the flow and feel of the two seasons were similar. This thing with the defense is frustrating because its clearly because of the scheme. This defense may have as little as two and as many as four first team all conference players, they have the talent and should have been better.

The ability to win close games (except OSU).

So he had the ability to win close games, except when he couldn't?

It's in play that for this season's opponents, there will be 100% correlation between going to a bowl game and winning vs. KSU, and vice versa.  I know Baylor's already bowl-eligible, but if they lost out on top of all the other stuff (rape, etc.), would they go to one?  Maybe it's mandatory somehow.

I think we all agree Klein did have magical powers, but also have you compared TOP between 2011 and 2016? Our style of offense with Klein definitely helped out our defense.

This year: 68 offensive plays, 65 defensive plays per game
2011: 69 offensive plays, 70 defensive plays per game

This year: 31:59 TOP
2011: 33:55 TOP

This year: Off #51, Def #57, ST #25 in S&P+.
2011: Off #36, Def #47, ST #29 in S&P+.

The per play metrics aren't much different, but compared to the nation, this year's offense/defense just aren't as good as 11. Also, both offense and defense made more plays in the 4th quarter than this year's team.

This team is younger than 2011. I think that vastly improves the potential ceiling in two years. If you got by position group strength they also are comparable to 2011. Strong at LBs and OL. Youthful WR and CB that aren't quite ready. Run first QB.

There is speculation that Baylor will not accept a bowl bid, the conference should fine them if they do not.

2011 Klein and 2016 Ertz may have similar but CK could actually throw deep enough to keep a d honest. The reason for hope imo is Barnes but if Ertz can't throw deep we can't beat anybody good.

Maybe a little.

Klein's Jr year was 6.8 yards per attempt. Ertz is at 6.2. Klein jumped to 8.7 as a Sr.

You don't seriously think Klein is a better passer than Sisco do you?

Could we chalk up 2011 to better leadership? Or maybe just better coaching. I feel like that team played harder and smarter.
