I'm really just tempering expectations about Ertz's performance. Not really any kind of knock on Burton. Burton had some big (and tough) catches that really helped Ertz's numbers not to mention the final score, especially considering Pringle was hurting.

Burton has improved a lot this year, some people live too much in past seasons

Worth mentioning that if Burton had a more typical day, Ertz's numbers would have looked much worse.

Whatever players. I'm glad to get the W this week, but I didn't see much evidence that Ertz has improved. :dunno:

Ertz has been playing well. If he would never throw more than 20 yards I'd be happy though.

Second. The Alex Smith passing package seems to be doing fine

The defense is falling apart. The offense isn't spectacular, but its improved to a serviceable level, especially since we don't turn the ball over. I get that teams get more yards/plays in today's football, but the Snyder 2.0 defense simply doesn't allow much room for offensive error to win football games. At all.

What are the defensive turn over numbers? We seem to be pretty good for a couple of them a game. The offense never punts, they score or we turn them over.

They are in the chart. It would be better to have TOs per drive, but that information isn't readily available. We are much better at forcing TOs than last year.

They're going to finish at least 6th and could possibly measuring stick their way to 4th.  It's not known yet if Baylor and TCU suck or nah, but it will be soon!

Not that any of that really relates at all to whether KSU is better or not.

I'm not hopeless like many people here though. I see this year and last as similar to 2009-11 when the staff was building a base for a run and I think that's what K-State football has to do. Much of our success is predicated by building an offense around a QB and I have hope for the future with the non-seniors we currently have on that side of the ball. Also, we have a base built for solid special teams/return games as well. That said, I do have questions on defense and whether we'll have enough there to support a good offense and special teams. We were far from great on defense in 11-12, but we had enough to support the offense and compete for a league title and be in the discussion for a national title. I'm not sure 17 or 18 will get quite to that level, but I can see pushing for 10 wins and finishing in the top 3 in the league if the current staff stays in place that long.

Is klein going to be worthless with only being around a deadbeat staff?  I don't even know if he can be a great coach but if he is learning at the feet of Dana and Del it makes me think he will develop into what they are.

Klein is coaching QBs at UNI.

If he was at KSU, he could learn chicken restaurant things from Hayes.

Also, I don't see Dana and Del (plus Coleman and Dickey) as a deadbeat staff. I was concerned last year and early this year, but I see the offense evolving and improving steadily now. Ertz has arguably better numbers as a first year starter compared to Klein, the offense doesn't turn it over, and I think the young group of offensive line, running backs, and receivers means good things for the future. IMO next year we are looking at a Top 30 offense nationally.

My biggest concerns are the trends on defense. Its good to see the improvement in TOs this year, but honestly part of TO numbers are pure luck. However, giving up explosive plays, not getting offenses off the field, and consistently having gap/scheme issues are huge problems even in a league filled with really good offenses. If we can't at least approach having and average defense, having good offense and special teams won't matter.

Our defense is young enough that if our staff can manage to do a halfway decent job recruiting, we could build depth and be pretty good the next 2 years.

I can't believe how many breakdowns we've had in the secondary this season.

I don't know what the eff do some of the "fans" posting on this board expect out of our team.  So far we only lost to the top teams in our conference; with two of them possible CFP contenders.  We got a new QB with injuries and quite a few new players on this team.  How about we give these guys some time, cause I think we win the next three.

That's a way of looking at things.
