Yes, that was a ridiculous check. I suppose we could blame the incompletion on the egregious hold on Pringle, but the throw was so bad it wouldn't have mattered.

coaches get no blame here? Just the refs and Hubes?

If he had ran the play called (almost certainly weak side qb option) and it failed, yeah, blame the coaches. But he checked into a hitch and spiked the ball into the turf, after the reciever had his hitch impaired because the corner was pulling on his jersey.

True. Right now our defense and special teams both rank in the top 30 nationally, but our offense is sitting in the 80s. PPP and PPD took a decent hit with those three 2nd half turnovers last week though. We were on pace for a significant bump until those happened, the first half was some of the best offense we've seen this year.

our receivers are good (relative) imo. we need to find a way to get them the ball more. like 'zooka joe is not an option here. ertz is kinda good at the short throw but just terrible at long/medium ones, maybe because he throwing muscles and bones are trashed. what the hell do we do?

Ertz kind of has the Klein thing where he throws a fairly accurate <15 yard ball, but it takes an eternity for the pass to get there.

I agree that our receivers are better, but they have some significant drops, so its not all on Ertz. Ertz had a great deeper throw to Pringle down the sideline last week that would have been a tough catch, but should have been made (for example). Though it wouldn't have made a huge difference, we had several drops against OU too.

I don't understand this logic. Players/coaches/schemes tend to get better, especially with a 1st year QB.

That may be true generally, but if I'm correct that Burton's performance was atypical, then by definition that general rule doesn't apply here.

But what is your point? Are you just wanting Burton's "typical day" to fit your narrative that this offense sucks and are implying that in your opinion Burton had a "lucky day" so therefore the offense really does suck?

He had 5 catches. Against Stanford, OU, and Tech he had 4 catches in each game. He had 3 games with 5 catches last year. This game isn't some outlier, its not some guy like Reuter having 5 catches out of nowhere. Burton is a decent receiver who is more than capable of having a good game if the defense allows it and he did.
