You're right, standing and holding a piece of a much larger flag during the national anthem is essentially the exact same thing as sitting on the bench staring at the floor in protest of the country, or whatever.

I think the people who get pissed off about the flag and anthem stuff are a minority.
Good chance since vast majority have not served in the military.

My dad is a Vietnam Vet and retired drill sergeant and he thinks that people who make this issue about the military are deplorable. He said the flag outragers are exploiting people who served to push an agenda.
As a veteran, I am offended when people disrespect the colors and anthem. I have no agenda except making it to the weekend for some Cats football. :)

Is holding a piece of paper the proper display of the flag? That's rhetorical fsd, don't answer. You would think for someone that's such a patriot you'd know the rules over what constitutes a proper flag and the proper ways it should be displayed and honored.

That precisely how I see it. It's obviously fabricated patriotism, and in this case being used to invalidate any real discussion and talk about more serious issues present in the US.

150,000 people (I believe the bigot called them hillbillies) standing united in supporting the country is the same thing as one guy sitting on the bench away from his team pouting.

Can you go to the flag thread in the pit and make your dumb ass points there instead?

Hey sock, what's bigoted about calling the 150,000 at Bristol, hillbillies? Are you under the impression that there were no black people at that game or that live in Appalachia?

The list is long and my wife bristles when I get on a roll. Good thing she loves me.

My biggest peeve is people talking and acting oblivious to the playing of the national anthem. Kaep doesn't fall in that category. He's protesting and exercising his First Amendment rights. Fine. Protest away.

Isn't waving a piece of paper in front of your face kind of ignoring the anthem?

Lord help me for saying this... FSD made the point already somewhere. They're creating a large flag as part of a patriotic display. I'd equate it to someone holding the edge of a large flag or being under it to make the waves.

This is a fine and reasonable response but what you're doing is essentially leaving all of this in the eye of the beholder because holding a placard is definitely not honoring the flags being presented on the field.

Depends on if this was an organized thing by the people in charge of the event or just a bunch of randos wearing flag hats.

It was a pretty big deal though, he was suspended which would not happen today. The internet has made the world a much smaller and much more informed place.

What if it's done with the intent to make the country a better place?  I mean, it seems like a hypocritical thing to fight for freedom then get all offended when ppl exercise said freedom.   :dunno:
