The SteveDave's of the world should be looking at slightly used luxury vehicles.

I just picked up a 2007 Lexus ES 350 for $8,500 cash.  It had 26K miles on it.

Damn, jealous.  Those older Lexus will run forever too.
Am also jealous. Pretty amazing to find a 13yo car with only 26K miles. Little old lady who kept it in her garage all the time?

i mean.  it's a lexus es 350. what are the chances that the previous owner isn't a 90 year old grandma, is less than zero possible in this case?

The es 350 is pretty common family car in Joco.  My guess is that the LS would be a more likely old lady car....husband dies and she just keeps driving it to church/temple, etc.

CarFax indicates family inheritance and quick trade.

Except for a scratch on the back bumper (appt next week) and some road rash on the wheels (deciding between local refurb or just ordering refurb'd wheels) car is in perfect condition.

Very jealous.  I would buy that car.

Great place to shop for Toyota/Lexus models (and many others) before Toyota quality went to crap.   Florida.

Speaking of crap.  Bought a 2009 Camry for my daughter, low mileage when she got her DL.   Just happened to be the series where Toyota eff'd up on the  piston ring oil drains.   75K miles, burning a quart of oil or more every 1,500 miles.   Daughter, just 'too busy' to take car in to set up for Toyota's bullshit 'oil test' which could have at least yielded a rebuilt engine.    If you're buying a car for a kid, beware of the 2008/2009 toyota Camry's.

As an aside.  Neighbor works for MB corporate, gets a new MB SUV every 2 or 3 months.  They build them right down the road in Tuscaloosa, MB SUV's all over the damn place around here.  Those and Honda Pilots, they build those down the road from BHAM towards ATL.

Bro in law bought a new GLS. It’s fancy AF but I bashed my head on the liftgate because it’s absurdly low and I now hate its guts.

Neighbor just got a new GLS to drive.   Haven’t noticed any head bashing.

Drove GLS for PGA a few years ago. Wasn't worth  the $$$. Felt like I was driving another domestic suv.

rav4 hybrid
venza
cr-v hybrid
crosstrek hybrid

in order from most efficient to least.  from like 42 mpg to 35ish, iirc.  all in the around 8" of ground clearance region.

or if you go in another direction, you can get something like a kia niro which is more efficient (50ish) but only has like 6.5" of clearance.

i gave up and bought a niro.

I think I am 2 years away from a new car.  I have never bought a new car before and I think I might pull the trigger, especially if Biden does something to make the the EV tax credit fully refundable or something.  I would have to really get aggro with my withholding to show a big enough tax liability to get the tax credit as is.

I am pretty sure I am getting at least a hybrid, probably an EV as we have a Pacifica for long hauls/kid shuttling.  This will just be my car for a commute and an occasional trip where we take two cars to family in St. Louis area or I go to KC or something.  So 250 mile range would be fine for most stuff, in extreme cold they said it can actually be as bad as about half that but I doubt I would want to drive very far with it in extreme cold and most situations where I would need to drive any distance in that weather would be the holidays and so I would have time to stop and re-charge.

Most likely:
Hyundai Kona EV
'22 Chevy Bolt EUV

Possible:--would depend on price and tax incentives
Tesla 3
VW id4

Unlikely:
Tesla cybertruck (price and stats are great! but it looks weird as hell)
VW electric van (don't need that much space, next move would be to get the Pacifica hybrid for the wife)

Gas back up New:
'22 Honda Civic with a stick shift (I don't want it to look like a cheap 2 fast 2 furious racer, but a manual would be fun and price is unbeatable)

Gas back up Used:
get a used luxury whip like a BMW or Caddy and mpg/gasoline be damned

the ioniq 5 would be more interesting to me over the kona.  i assume it'll be a little more expensive, but probably not much?

bunch of new ev models gonna be released in the next 2-3 years too.

I can't find very many details on it, much less info than a lot of other '22 models other than the honda civic which is getting a re-design so details are also pretty speculative.

Guys I just rolled over to 90k miles on my car. Is it basically worthless now? Should I drive it straight to the junkyard before it breaks down?

you are either a 400k miles person or a 50k miles person in my experience (as a new car buyer anyway). the 90k makes no sense imo. I'm not a car guy but I trade mine at about 50k usually because I just get tired of them and there's new stuff that looks hot. but if I didn't at the point that you've weathered the new better stuff part why not go all the way? I say drive it until it leaves you stranded on the side of the road at this point.

Wouldn't mind getting my hands on a well-maintained old Ranger. One of my favorite vehicles ever.

Or some of that sweet z71 stepside action

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.
