I think most coaches are too scared to play pressure on defense or fast on offense. First, it takes too much control away from the coach and college coaches love to have a ton of control of what happens on the court. Second, especially on defense, you give up a lot of "easy" baskets (or at least that's often the perception) if you press the entire game. Granted, many (most?) coaches probably don't really look into what happens per possession if you play fast (or slow for that matter), but most coaches do not like giving up lay-ups, even if you force 3 turnovers for everyone you give up. Third, if it fails, it fails miserably and you get fired.

Pressing teams normally aren't great defensive teams either, this year's WVU team is kind of an anomaly. Last year they were 45th in adjusted D, good not great, only 5th in the conference.

When I coached high school we pressed our assess off and it worked because there was never anyone who could handle the ball and high schoolers panic.

I'm saying to do it in couple-minute spurts at what would seem to be unusual points in the game.  Could do the end-of-game comeback offense like michcat suggests also (separately or simultaneiously), and blow the opponent's minds.

Lol if a cat opponent this past year had it set up that they would go to the ball-out superpress for a couple minutes as soon as the cats made their first substitution of the game (h'dogs) at the 17-minute mark.

Seems like ku used to do this to us mid-game pre-huggins.

Our team doesn't seem capable of running an offense.  Pressing at random points seems pretty complicated when it takes all 5 people or its layup practice.

In theory, I like they idea.  Same with switching to a zone at random points.  You hope it results in a turnover or they waste enough time and get a garbage shot.  Stealing a couple of possessions in a close game could make all the difference.  Makes it tough on the other team to game plan for something they will only see a couple of plays too.

In jv Jr. high basketball, we would 3-2 "FIRE" the crap out of the other team 4-5 times per game. The 3 guys up top trap and deny and the two bigs would jump the passing lanes to the wings. Yes, it left at least one person wide open under the basket, but jv Jr. high basketballers get really scared and NEVER make a successful pass to the wide open guy under the basket in that situation.

This.  Our school pressed all game most of the time.  The panic thing is real and easily taken advantage of, as long as you have conditioned players.

If this underwood thing doesn't work out, I'll coach the team but will probably need some of you people on staff.

You're gonna have to make sure Mich doesn't stand up too much, otherwise this won't work.

Sounds like doom is AD, so shouldn't be a problem.

Do you guys really think Mich doing too much is going to be a problem for me?  He seems really angry though.  Hey, gotta go guys.  I'm hitting up some big time donors (Winterz, Fan) for concessions upgrades.  Walking tacos for everyone!

Interestingly, OEFF is the highest in the kenpom era this season. I remember lots of folks here basically saying basketball would be ruined because of the shorter shot clock.

In general, preseason polls are dumb, but this is impressive. The only team that really came out of nowhere was Syracuse. Oregon, aTm, and Miami were 26, 29, and 31 in the preseason AP poll.

Similarly, when I coached high school we got our asses pressed off and it worked because we didn't have anyone who could handle the ball and we panicked.

It is a lovely city. I'm sad that they'll be brushing up with my guy, IPA4ME.

For comparison, the tickets in Chicago tomorrow start at $235 on StubHub.

Miami is long.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.
