The bollards, or “slats,” as he prefers to call them, should be painted “flat black,” a dark hue that would absorb heat in the summer, making the metal too hot for climbers to scale, Trump has recently told White House aides, Homeland Security officials and military engineers.
...
Trump has demanded Department of Homeland Security officials come to the White House on short notice to discuss wall construction and on several occasions woke former secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to discuss the project in the early morning
...
Trump often brought up the construction of the barrier at unrelated meetings, and aides learned to bring prep books — and even sketches — to address his questions.
...
Trump frequently delved into the minutiae of contracts and suggested that some of his friends in New York would have ideas on how to build it faster
...
Approved barrier designs include a flat-panel anti-climbing surface that has been field-tested, but the president doesn’t like the way it looks either, arguing that sharp spikes would appear more intimidating.

Trump told one group of aides that the metal points would cut the hands of climbers and function as a more effective deterrent.

I can't wait to see the looks on the faces of the Federal Fiscal Year non-understanders next year when more than three miles of wall is complete!

I like that little 10 foot section of orange safety fence tacked on to the end.  Interestingly enough it will stop the same amount of people as the WALL at a fraction of the cost!

Honestly, the only time I ever think about it is when I'm defending Trump online.

What are the recently developed talking points to make an excuse when the wal is way over budget and they only build a few miles?

To me “a few” means 3+. We are a ways out unless they extend the orange safety fence a couple miles.

Trump immediately brought up Fisher, a company that sued the U.S. government last month after the Army Corps did not accept its bid to install barriers along the southern border
...
Trump likes Fisher because he had seen him on television advocating for his version of the barrier: “He’s been very aggressive on TV,”
...
grumbling to aides that the Army Corps contracting process is holding back his ambitions. At the White House meeting Thursday, he said he doesn’t like the current design for the wall’s gates, suggesting that instead of the hydraulic sliding gate design, the Army Corps should consider an alternative, according to an administration official: “Why not French doors?” the president asked.

(Story also sounds super shady.)

Ever tried to bypass dealing with the federal procurement process by transferring funds from military accounts?

Thank goodness. Not sure about the details of that particular court battle but I sure hope that legislation is being challenged as unconstitutional.
