Hadn't seen this discussed.

Looks like we were able to borrow money at only 3% to finance these tax breaks!!!!

http://cjonline.com/news/2015-12-15/kdot-issues-record-400-million-bonds-exceeds-previous-debt-cap

KDOT issues bonds every year. And they proceeds have to be used for road improvements otherwise the issue loses its TE status. Other than that, you guys really nailed the issues here.

Yep just something that happens every year.

http://kcur.org/post/kansas-house-appropriations-chair-says-kdot-deal-not-done-secret#stream/0

http://kcur.org/post/he-said-she-said-erupts-over-kdot-bonding-limit#stream/0

http://www.pitch.com/FastPitch/archives/2012/08/28/kansas-turns-to-kdot-funds-to-pay-for-capitol-renovations

(Also when I contacted my Representative (a Republican) he said he was unaware of the limit adjustment and also had not been informed about KDOT seeking a record number of Bonds.  He was not supportive and it was his opinion that this was irresponsibly meant to cover budget shortfall.)

It seems that the budget works by bringing in insufficient revenue and then taking money from kdot to cover the difference (when that is not enough to cover the deficit tax the poor to cover the diff)

what am i missing?

I am pretty sure that no federal money is used on rock roads in Kansas.

Please tell me about how moving over a billion dollars to the general fund from KDOT to cover revenue shortfalls should be reasonably interpreted?

Well we have already learned in the Sam Brownback thread that FSD doesn't understand how taxes work, so I'm not sure why we would think he understands the budget process.

Other than the kta, where do you think KDOT gets revenues from?

Why do you get your news from the pitch?

Are you rough ridin' serious?  It's called gasoline tax, registration, and sales tax.  That's where half their revenue comes from.

And KTA was a completely separate entity up until like 2013, and their funding is still mostly separate. There was crap going on like a KTA building would be right across the highway from a KDOT building.

Add KDOT and KTA to the list of stuff that FSD is clueless about.

Sounds good. Thanks for staying on the lookout for KDOT taxes being illegally siphoned to the general fund via fraudulent bond issues. After laundered through our government I'm sure they go to the Kochs

I guess we shouldn't be surprised that the libtards would rather the KDOT have a quarter billion dollars in the bank than be spent on our children's education. Smdh

I am for borrowing more while interest rates are low.  We have crap roads and need state wide rail passenger service.  We néed a southwest Kansas 4 lane through Dodge and Garden. This would allow the better movement of cows and a products.

In edn Whack-A-Doodle world, government entities never move money around in their budgets . . . but hey, you guys don't know "how budgets work".

Never going to defend Brownback, insofar as that news article goes, it's not particularly difficult for government entities to refinance bonds.

Governmental accounting is so hard. Normal Financial accounting is very simple and easy, but man I sucked in the Not for Profit, governmental accounting class.
